Poplar Bluff is a small town in Jackson County, Missouri, United States. The population was 513 at the 2010 census. It is part of the St. Louis metropolitan area. Poplar Bluff was founded in 1815 by brothers Elijah and Isaac Poplar. The present town site was laid out in 1837 by John Denton, who named it for his friend and neighbor Sir Robert Peel from London. At first, the settlers were farmers with few buildings other than logs used for barns and longhouses. By 1860, when the railroad arrived, Poplar Bluff had a post office, three churches (one Methodist), two schools (grades one through five), a general store/grocery store, and several frame houses. The growth of the businesses led to the erection of more buildings over time: a Masonic lodge in 1895; a hospital in 1907; an opera house in 1933; and most recently an arena/multi-purpose facility opened in 2009 that seats 6,500 people on four levels including standing room only on two lower levels for events such as rock concerts and basketball games. Today many residents are involved with their local community organizations such as Rotary Clubs or Kiwanis Clubs which offer opportunities for membership throughout the year as well as special events like bake sales or car wash nights during summer months when there is no school let alone entertaining done outside so neighborhood members can get together without having to leave their homes!

Poplar Bluff (Missouri) is a town located in Clay County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,884 at the 2010 census. Poplar Bluff is part of the Springfield metropolitan area. It was laid out in 1837 by General John Brown and named for Poplar Creek which ran through the town. The first post office in Poplar Bluff was established on December 12, 1837. The present post office building was built in 1909 and replaced a previous structure that had been destroyed by fire. In 1915, an additional post office called "Wells" was opened in neighboring Wellsville after local citizens donated land to support the new establishment. In 1925, Poplar Bluff acquired its own school district which still operates today as one of six public schools within the Springfield-Springfield-Manchester School District. The original school building served as both the district's primary academic institution and administrative headquarters until it burned down in 1961; consequently, not only did PoplarBluff lose its primary educational provider but also its most visible municipal landmark. Since then, various attempts have been made to resurrect interest or rebuild what remains of the old school building with mixed results: In 2002–2003, a group spearheaded by current Mayor Randy O'Connell unsuccessfully lobbied for a $10 million dollar renovation project which would have added more than 200 new rooms to what had formerly been an outdated two story brick structure; however no structural changes were made to either facility subsequent to their completion despite feedback from community members who specifically suggested such alterations . In 2006–2007 another group led by Pastor Rick Freitas successfully lobbied for a $5 million dollar renovation project which would have added new flooring and Renovated all exterior walls including adding brand new glass windows throughout; however no allocated funds ever materialized and construction activity ceased shortly afterwards due to economic downturn conditions . Finally in fall of 2009 – following several years of effort by Town Manager Todd Coleman – plans were finally filed with the Missouri State Highway Patrol requesting permission to demolish/ reconstruct portions of existing infrastructure sufficient enough to accommodate increased traffic resulting from growth within town limits since 2000 – including expanding west onto Walnut Street across from Community Bank - should development occur adjacent thereto resulting in increased vehicle access during morning rush hours beginning around 5am during peak periods without impact on student instructional timeouts or evening services currently offered at said bank location
