Poplar Bluff, Missouri is a small town in Logan County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,371 at the 2010 census. Poplar Bluff is part of the Kansas City metropolitan area. It is located on U.S. Route 60 (a main road in central Logan County) and its ZIP code is 64011. The first settler in what would become Poplar Bluff was James Auld in 1836. Auld's land included present-day Poplar Bluff and parts of what are now Osage Beach and Independence Heights. In 1839, John Catlin purchased from Auld three hundred acres of land that would include present-day Poplar Bluff and the small community around it about four miles south along US 60. The Catlins renamed their new settlement "PoplarBluff" after a poplars they found growing near their home at the time. By 1840, there were 5 households and 10 residents living in "PoplarBluffs". According to the USGS National Map of 1912, much of what is now Poplar Bluff was within the limits of Lawrence Township when it was created on February 14, 1872 from a portion of Kankakee Township east of US 160 (now an unincorporated community).
