Ozark is a small town in Clarke County, Missouri, United States. The population was 910 at the 2010 census. Ozark is part of the Springfield–Springfield, MO Metropolitan Statistical Area. The land that became Ozark was first settled by Mennonites in 1836. The community's name is derived from a location called Ozark Springs in far western Clarke County. In 1859, an act of the Missouri Legislature changed the name of the county to Clarke after General James Fenton Clarke and his family who had donated land for the new settlement. In 1871, two brothers named George Washington Cody and John Hodge purchased 1/4 acre (0.16 km2) of land east of town on which they built a log cabin and began to farm their lands. They named their new community Codyville after George Washington Cody, one of their ancestors who had fought in the Mexican-American War and been wounded at Monterrey Creek near present-day Springfield. In 1899, postmaster Jethro Ladd moved his family from Springdale to Ozarks when he took over leadership of what would become Post Office Department #1 thereabouts; he had earlier served as its first employee. He set about enlarging and improving upon an old mission house used by members of his church – now known as First United Methodist Church – on Main Street in town center where he lived until his death in 1916 at age 82 years old; then came Mrs., Mr., Missus., 3 children (Lillie Mae married Clyde Anderson), plus many honorary relatives before her untimely death some 25 years later at age 67 years old due to pneumonia caused by a car accident she survived but did not recover from as she could barely walk; all nine residents attended her funeral services along with many more friends than could be accommodated inside First United Methodist Church’s temporary sanctuary before Sunday services were moved outdoors to Cemetery Road behind First Baptist Church so that more people might have an opportunity see her interment proper while underprivileged individuals located nearby were able to view only “an open casket” during service hours starting immediately following burial time rather than standing outside listening to music played continuously day and night for seven days straight! All attendees received free refreshments during this period including watermelon baskets brought into church daily! That same year saw commencement exercises for high school seniors entering Classes I through VIII inclusive taking place simultaneously across 2 floors/22 classrooms inside First United Methodist Church overlooking Market Square just south side Railroad Ave leading eastward out door (now north side Business Park Drive). On July 20th 2018 on earth's birthday celebrate 120 total years since this building was erected on July 20th 1889 consisting OF 9 locals & 8 non-local mail carriers working together it is said that only 6 locals remain & we are still trying TO bring back our 5 missing co-workers... Ozark, Missouri is a small town in Johnson County, Missouri. The population was 2,569 at the 2010 census. Ozark is located on the Arkansas River just east of junction of US-640 and MO-431. The first known inhabitants of this area were the Osage people who lived there for centuries. In 1821, General James K. Polk sent an expedition up the Arkansas to find new land for the United States and founded what is now Springfield on the banks of that river. In 1837, General John C. Frémont discovered gold in what is now eastern Kansas and decided to settler in what is now Ozark on land he had discovered while exploring western Kansas. This led to Ozark's growth as a farming community and its incorporation as a town in 1870. The growth of Ozark can be traced back to several factors including its location along Route 640 which linked east St Louis with west Memphis; its easy access to water resources such asriverboats which transported goods between east St Louis and west Memphis; and its location within commuting distance of both cities." Ozark also benefited from strong agricultural production due to its fertile soil, good rainfall patterns, nearby forests, and population density." Ozark experienced some economic setbacks during World War II but has since recovered." Its largest employer until 2006 was Phelps Dodge Corporation whichowned a number of businesses including First National Bank (now part of JPMorgan Chase), Phelps Dodge Canning Company (now defunct), Frontier Communications Co., Inc., Southern Illinois University Carbondale (SIUC), Midwestern Bell Telephone Company (MBT) - all located within walking or biking distance from downtown Ozarks'. Today ozarksmatters most notable employer is Ball State University which occupies buildings on Main Street adjacent to Phelps Dodge's former manufacturing plant."

The town had been founded by men who left Springfield, Illinois after the American Civil War began. The town's name comes from Ozark Mountain, which is located in central Ozark.
