In 1867, a group of farmers in Ozark County, Missouri decided to make their own town. The first settlers were six men from Illinois and one woman. They named the new town "Ozark" after a location in Kansas. It wasn't until 1870 that the first post office was established in Ozark. The town grew quickly and by 1875, it had a population of over 100 people. In 1886, Ozark became the seat of government for the county.
