Ozark, Missouri is a town in Ozark County, Missouri, United States. The population was 2,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the St. Louis metropolitan area. Ozark was named after Samuel Osgood and his family who settled in the area in 1836. Ozark is located on State Route 54 about 20 miles (32 km) west of downtown St. Louis and 25 miles (40 km) east of Kansas City. The first permanent settler in Ozarks was Samuel Osgood who arrived in 1836 from New York state. He built a cabin near present-day Ozark and started a small cattle ranch which he continued until his death in 1851. His son John Osmond also lived here for some time before moving to what is now Arkadelphia, Arkansas.. In 1867, Daniel Boone married Rachel Keefer here and they started a farm on what is now Park Avenue just outside the town limits today.. They had four children: David Boone, Daniel Boone Keefer II (1868-1949),Rachel Boone Hardee (1870-1959), and James Aiken Boone (1872-1958). After Daniel’s death in 1909, Rachel took over management of their farm until her death five years later.. James Aiken also became an attorney here before serving as mayor of St., Louis from 1933 to 1945 When World War II began there were few job opportunities available so many men enlisted as soldiers or sailors . One man who decided to stay behind was Orville Freeman . Freeman had been born hereabouts in 1865 and had worked his way up through the ranks of local businesses including being general manager of the local grocery store when he applied for service during World War I When war came he offered his services to the military but due to age restrictions he couldn’t serve overseas so instead he joined the Navy . Upon returning home Freeman founded one of ozarks most famous businesses; The Kiesel Company which manufactured gas turbines for boats and other vessels ......In 1948 Orville Freeman died suddenly at home while still working at The Kiesel Company ..................... Today Kiesel produces high performance gasoline turbine engines used by NASA , Allied Forces Europe etc ..............As one may have guessed with such an illustrious history there are plenty of memorabilia associated with Ozarks past .................

OZARK, MISSOURI – Ozark is a small town located in Johnson County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,693 at the 2010 census. Ozark is part of the Springfield-Springfield Metropolitan Statistical Area. The community has been called "the little village" because it has a population size of less than one thousand people. It is also home to Ozark State Park and the townsite of Westville and Freedom. The first settler in what would become Ozarks was John Lattimer in 1836. He owned 640 acres (250 hectares) of land that he named Lattimer's Prairie after himself and his father-in-law, James Lattimer Sr., who had settled in the area in 1819. By 1840, there were 10 settlers living in Ozarks; three families farmed over 624 acres (240 hectares). In 1844, William Allen moved to what became Ozark from Illinois with his family. They started a tannery on the east side of town and developed other business interests including mercantile activity and shipping flour and other goods from Illinois to Arkansas and Missouri. In 1847, David Crockett came to Clay County looking for land for cattle drives that he hoped would lead him to Indian Territory where he could find more rich lands suitable for ranching or mining. After traveling through southern Johnson County on horseback, Crockett reached the river valley near present day Westville on October 3rd. Heading downstream on an old wagon road known as Old Ulysses S Grant Road (named after GeneralUlysses S Grant), Crockett's party encountered Native Americans while crossing a large Arkansas River tributary just south of present day Freedom Township when they were attacked by about 50 Sioux warriors led by Chief Little bighorn near modern day Mount Vernon Cemetery Site #1 within miles of today's Independence Cemetery Site #2 off US Highway 20 about 12 miles southeast of Springfield along I-435/US Highway 56W just south ofmilepost 8 (). This attack resulted in approximately 160 white men being killed including most notable leader Captured Chief Little bighorn (), which sparked outrage among many American settlers who believed their government should have taken action against these Indians instead of allowing them to uncontestably slaughter innocent people without consequence (). Some years later General George Armstrong Custer discovered this massacre taking place upstream at Resolution Lake about 15 miles northwest ofmodern day Mount Vernon Cemetery Site #1 within miles west enjoys Cassaway Country Club & Spa Resort golf course located adjacent thereto () between mileposts 4 & 7 ().
