Ozark, MO is a town located in the Ozarks of southern Missouri. The population was 9,362 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Saline-St. Louis-Kansas City, MO Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in what is now Ozark was John Brigdon who arrived in 1786 and named it after his home country, Scotland. Brigdon's farmstead still stands today on the east side of town just south of US Route 640/MO Route 552 about five miles east of downtown Ozark. In 1821, Nathan Bedford Forrest came to this area and founded Fort Sebastian which became known as one of the most important slave trading posts in the Mississippi Valley. In 1827, Ft. Sebastian moved its operations to what is now Osage Beach and continued to trade until 1830 when it closed down because of financial problems caused by戦争 in Europe which had destroyed much business for Ulysses S Grant's army during their occupation hereabouts 2 years later (1830), General James Knoppers built a small fort on an overlook overlooking present day Selma Avenue about four miles west of town limits near modern day Mount Vernon Cemetery Knoppers renamed his new post for himself "Fort Mims" but it reverted back to Ft Sebastian within two years due to federal regulation that required all military posts be named for generals or officers who commanded them rather than their birthplace or original seat - something that didn't sit well with Knoppers . So he renamed it again (July 1st 1833) yet again becoming "Ozark" after neighboring communities nearby - a decision that has stuck around ever since! The first post office opened at Ozark on November 10th 1861 under the name "Battle Creek". It would remain open until May 3rd 1870 when it changed its name to "Saline". On July 15th 1905 Union Pacific Railroad began operations from St. Joseph north through central Missouri via Rock Island Depot into Kansas City where they connected with Southern Railway's line northeastward across Kansas into Chicago railroad ties were laid down from St Joseph north through central Missouri connecting up with Southern Railway's line northeastward across Kansas into Chicago creating a continuous network extending all the way from Jackson County Illinois all the way into Oklahoma Territory! This allowed farmers and businessmen throughout eastern Kansas & western Oklahoma easy access to goods being shipped directly from Chicago & Omaha ! At first this system served primarily local needs but over time more& more connections were made bringing vast amounts of goods & people closer together making Arkansas Territory etc., one big distribution center ! It wasn't long before photojournalists started using this same route along with Air Force Base nearby for various documentary purposes! On December 12th 1953 Congress passed legislation providing for an express train service between Saline & Wichita Falls Texas called First National Express Train Company (FNXCO) starting operation on April 15th 1954 running every 20 minutes nonstop exceptional occasions when services could run three times per hour instead !! The train company operated until May 30th 1969 when passenger service ended following Amtrak's acquisition thereof
