OVERLAND, Mo. – It was in the early 1800s when General James K. Polk and his army came across Overland on its way to Stones River in Tennessee. The area that is now Overland was then a part of the Shawnee Nation and the Missourians were conquering it for land grants. The first white men to come through this region were missionaries led by Father Gabriel Richard in 1814. They founded what is now St. Louis, Missouri on a bluff overlooking the confluence of the Arkansas and Kansas rivers. This initial venture failed because no one wanted to live near Indian warriors who could attack them at any time. In 1821, Captain John Sutter explored this area and discovered gold near present-day Highland Park; he named the place Sacramento after Emperor Napoleon’s capital city in France (the event took place in 1824). He also built a small fort here which served as his headquarters during his explorations of central California and Nevada before returning home with an rich find of gold eventually leading to California’s formation as a state in 1850. Overland became an important railroad town due to its location at a crossing over two rapids on the Arkansas River just upstream from Independence National Historical Park where trains arriving from St Louis crossed into Kansas Territory on their way southward through Dodge City, Topeka, Wichita Falls and other towns until they reached Independence National Historical Park where passengers disembarked for lunch atstyle restaurants before continuing their journey northward along I-70 all the way to Chicago or eastward via Omaha or Des Moinesgencies such as floods or robbery required fast passage over rapids so steamboats often stopped at Overland for storage while riverboats passed upriver carrying goods downstream making Overland one of America’s busiest water crossings during that period

Overland is a small town in Jefferson County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,362 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Kansas City metropolitan area. The town was founded in 1836 by John Overland and his brother-in-law James K. Polk as an outpost on the Santa Fe Trail. The two families built a log courthouse and home around 1840, and began trading goods with settlers farther west. In 1850, John Overland sold his share in the town to his son George Washington Overland Jr., who renamed it Overland after himself. In 1857, the Union Pacific Railroad arrived in Overland from Kansas City and started construction of its line eastward from Independence Junction to St Joseph. On July 4 of that year, employees of the railroad stopped at OverLAND for dinner before continuing their journey southward to Topeka. A local resident named Mrs Presley donated her home for use as a depot; this became known as "The Station House". In 1870, over 1,000 people lived in Overlanders when it incorporated as a city; it ceased operations in 1907 due to budget cuts by then Mayor William Sibley Beavers IV (a Democrat). After World War II ended in 1945, many soldiers returning home decided to stay and start businesses or raise families near what was now rural Jefferson County rather than move back into cities during the postwar boom years that followed. This migration created new opportunities for people living outside urban areas: many farmers turned out to be entrepreneurs who developed new products such as cornmeal pudding mix and candy bars; others opened businesses serving tourists or providing services such as telephones and lawn care; still others established themselves as professionals or managers within larger towns or cities where they had roots but remained insulated from overall economic development trends. From 1950 until recently there has been steady growth of high school students graduating from nearby schools - makingOverlanders one of the fastest growing communities withinJefferson County since 2000! Overland, Missouri is a town in Benton County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,554 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Springfield Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent settler in Overland was Joel Sprague in 1819. The first post office was established in 1825 and operated for six years. In 1830, John Sprague opened a store on the east side of town. By 1840, Overland had two churches and five stores. In 1850, Jesse Catton settled on the west side of town and began to grow corn and wheat. He also raised chickens and hogs. By 1860, Overland had ten stores and thirty-four residents. In 1870, Jno Aitken built a log cabin near the center of town as his home until he moved into his present house in 1872. In 1880, Samuel Barker started a flour mill in Overland with three hundred barrels of flour per day output. By 1890, there were twenty businesses in Overland with a total payroll of $10 thousand dollars per year. In 1904-05 over 200 people from Benton County came to work at the new Springfield Mfg& Machinery Co., which became one of America's leading manufacturers of industrial machinery during that time period – responsible for such iconic products as GE’s horizontal windmill (1896), Ford’s Model T(1914), Singer Sewing Machine (1930), Belknap Coffee Mill (1892). In 1915-16 over 400 workers were employed at this company when it acquired its current name: American Mfg & Manufacturing Co.. At its peak production capacity during World War II (WWII Aluminum Production Center) For most manufacturing activities Post Office Department mail processing operations continued until early 1949 when plant closed due to lack of demand; however some activities such as die casting remained until plant closure date 1955
