Overland became known as a stop on wagons traveling between Nauvoo, Illinois, and St. Louis, Missouri. The first settler in Overland was John Wesley Powell, who came to live there after organizing the first successful expedition up the Arkansas River. Afterward, Overlanders developed into a bustling community with its own schools and newspapers. In 1870s and 1880s, local farmers turned their attention to mining uranium near Coalville; however, over time Overlanders declined because of high prices for uranium ore and low demand for it outside of town. In recent years, though, Overlander has seen renewed development as a bedroom community for Springfield (and occasionally other nearby towns), as well as becoming an important center for higher education in the Ozarks region. Recent projects have included expanding Main Street through renovation of several buildings along its length; plans are underway to build a new downtown square that will house both public shops and cultural attractions; and construction of two large housing developments just east of town – one calledGateway Village and another called UnityVillage – which will provide more than 4500 housing units within easy walking distance of all sorts of retail businesses and services. A few miles west lies White Sands National Monument; while not typically associated with Overland orSpringfield specifically, visitors are likely to pass through this monument on their way to either city if they're traveling down Interstate 270 or Springfield Parkway。

Overland, Missouri is a town in Posey County, Missouri, United States. The population was 584 at the 2010 census. Overland was founded in 1853 and named for General George Armstrong Custer. The first settler in Overland was A.W. Heineman and his family who arrived on horseback from Illinois on July 10, 1853. John Dooley also settled here in 1853 after traveling through Posey County on his way to St Louis, Missouri. In 1865, over eighty men of the 2nd Volunteer Cavalry Regiment camped around Overland while they were waiting for their transportation back to Cairo, Illinois which they had pre-arranged with the Union Army. Here they met some of their future comrades including Captain Samuel Tilden who became one of the most highly decorated Confederate Officers during the war. In 1870 a new post office called Poseyville was established by act of Congress with James Fenton as the first postmaster; he served until 1865 when he resigned due to health reasons and moved to Kansas City where he died two years later. Heiner Bros Diggings began operations near Overland Creek in 1880 from a small piece of land donated by Heiner Brothers Demolition Co.; it grew into an extensive mining and milling business that still operates today as Heiner Mines & Paper Company Incorporated (HMP). In 1903 HMP acquired holdings in nearby Raymore which led to its current name: Raymore Mining & Milling Company Incorporated (RM&MCo.). In 1916 RM&M purchased an adjacent farmstead known as Clearwater which became home to their paper mills along Withlacoochee River until 1978 when all production ceased due to environmental concerns associated with lead mining activity; however trace amounts of lead still remain present throughout much of Hill Country USA today! Leroy Sibley started cattle ranching operation near Overland Creek beginning in 1886; this early grazing program continues today on thousand acres leased from federal government under Bureau of Indian Affairs jurisdiction since 1924! Today’s operation is managed by Eastern Plains Cattle Ranch LLC.; one of only three operating ranches within twenty miles (30 kilometers) of St Joseph, MO! A few weeks ago I visited my great-grandfather's old home located just outside Ofallon; it housed many memories from my childhood growing up hereabouts - memories that include helping my grandfather load hay onto his wagon during market days...and getting fresh milk for dinner! When we went out there there were no cars or trucks around so we had plenty of time to look at everything just like it would have been back then - something that I can only imagine must have been quite exciting for kids back then!
