Overland, Missouri is a small town in the Ozarks of eastern Missouri. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Springfield–Based Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in Overland was James H. Carleton, who arrived in 1837. He and his family were among the hundred or so pioneers who crossed the Arkansas River into what is now Overland on July 4, 1837. A post office was established at Overland on October 12, 1837, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1907. Most of what is now Overland was originally part of Anson County; however, during the time that it served as an incorporated town (1868-1907), much of it belonged to Adair County which included present day Springfield. In 1865 Union General John Custer passed through this area fording the Ohio River near present day Overton; he had been sent south to help stop Confederate President Abraham Lincoln from invading Texas and reaching Mexico City before he could be elected president on November 3rd. As a result of this crossing Union forces burned most of what is now Overland Center while troops stayed behind to protect settlers driven out by the fire: these troops are also often mentioned as being responsible for founding nearby Ozark Village (now Mound City). A new courthouse replaced Old Courthouse across Main Street from where it still stands today on March 22nd 1888 after two years construction time with only $1,500 budgeted against a projected $25,000 bill! The new courthouse cost over $100,000 more but still met all expectations and remain one of Missouri's most popular tourist destinations today despite its age. As elsewhere in east MO & Ozarks there has always been & will continue to be an element or "pioneers"/"early adopters"/small businesses who push things forward - many Main Street namesakes still exist today due to their impact on local commerce

Overland, Missouri was once a thriving farming community. The town was located in the now-defunct United States County, and it had a population of over 2,000 people in the 1800s. In 1831, Overland was abandoned by its residents due to economic reasons. However, it continued to be used as a stagecoach stop for passengers traveling between St. Louis and Cairo, Illinois. In 1837, Overland's post office closed due to financial difficulties. However, it reopened in 1840 under new management and continue serving the community until 1945. The town's history can be traced back to 1811 when two German immigrants named Friedrich and Johann Kapp discovered land that would later become Overland. The pair leased the land from local farmers for $200 per year and began farming it out to settlers. By 1830, Overland had a population of 350 people living on six miles of farmland split among 20 households. In 1837, three years after its founding, Overland became the first town in United States County when it was chosen as the county seat by vote of its residents. At that time, there were only 10 towns in Missouri total and Overlanders were one of them! The decision to choose OverLAND as county seat came about because St Louis was then too large an city for everyone to live within reach so they needed a central place where they could all meet together socially and trade goods and services." This choice also helped Toeleville grow along with it since many farmers who lived near Toeleville sent their goods into St Louis so that traders could sell them items like flour or tobacco products at lower prices than if they bought them from local merchants." Even though It didn't have any industries or businesses back then (the only thing going on was farming), over time I've found out that this small town has been very important both economically but also politically because various decisions made about our County government have led us where we are today."
The Overland, Missouri railroad was originally built in 1857 as a way to bring goods and passengers between St. Louis and Independence, MO. The railway was later extended to Kansas City and Tulsa, OK. In 1919, the company merged with the Union Pacific Railroad.
