The company was started in 1866 by two men, George Wright and John J.Wright, both of whom were interested in improving the equipment available to farmers and hunters. By 1870, the company had become a leading supplier of binoculars to businesses and individuals all over Great Britain and Europe. In 1909, Overland became one of the first towns in the United States to get its own water supply when it joined the city of Kansas City’s system. At that time, Binoculars Ltd. was one of the largest suppliers of binocular products in America. In 1912, Overland became an incorporated town with its own government, complete with a library and post office. That same year saw the introduction of Overland’s first ever telescope: a 6-inch refractor built by Wm L Moody & Sons Incorporated. Overland continued to grow as an important community until World War II when it lost much of its population due to military service or economic necessity. Afterward,Overland resumed itsrowth as a residential area which continues today thanks in part to its rich history and many cultural attractions such as The Toomer Museum of American History (founded in 1940) and The Missouri Botanical Garden (founded in 1865).
Overland, Missouri is a small town in the US state of Missouri. The population was 5,256 as of the 2010 census. It is part of the St. Louis metropolitan area. Overland is located on I-70 at its junction with US-Route 66, about 20 miles (32 km) north of St. Louis and 100 miles (160 km) south of Kansas City. The date December 12, 1854 was chosen as the day for the territorial capital to be moved from Nauvoo, Illinois to Overland because it lay within Indian Territory at that time and had been proposed as a site for the capital by Governor Andrew J Smith. In 1857, when Iowa became a United States territory, Overland reverted back to Mexico under General Antonio López de Santa Anna and this caused much discussion about whether or not it should become an American city again like Nauvoo but no action was taken until 1861 when President Abraham Lincoln designated Overland the new seat of government for all western Missouri Territory due to fears that Kansas City might take over as the new territorial capital if Nauvoo went bankrupt. On November 15th 1862, $2 million worth of bonds were sold in order to finance construction of a new courthouse and other infrastructure in downtown OverLAND which would serve as both financial and governmental center for all Territorial citizens including county seat duties also assigned to OverLAND until 1925 when these functions were transferred to Independence which currently serves as both county seat and primary governmental center for all residents east of Interstate 70 including most rural areas located within Johnson County west of I-270 & northwest corner on I-35W known informally as "the long wall" because itseparates Johnson County from Phelps County (& Platte County) In 1865 Congress passed legislation authorizing Missouri Statehood resulting in formal annexation by Missouri into that state on January 14th 1866 makingOverLAND now an official city within that state - something never done before or since by any other US jurisdiction! This event marks one significant milestone along what has become one long journey towards becoming an international city status achieved through incorporation into more than 25 foreign jurisdictions!

Overland, Missouri is a town in the United States. It was founded in 1836 by George Armstrong Custer and his family. The town was named after the Overland Trail, which ran through the area. Overland has a population of about 2,500 people today.
Overland is a city in Jackson County, Missouri, United States. The population was 2,857 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Springfield, MO-IL Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first post office in Overland was established on November 6, 1864, by order of Governor James K. Polk. The present post office building was erected in 1912 and is one of four original buildings on the current site of Overland City Hall. The town began as a small community near where Interstate 70 now intersects I-270; it grew quickly because of its location and easy access to transportation. Mines were discovered soon after settlers arrived and production continued until World War II when everything stopped due to the war effort. In the late 1800s and early 1900s there were many businesses in Overland including groceries, hardware stores, banks (six), a theater (the First National) and two physicians offices/hospitals (one for women only). In 1910 there were also six schools: three elementary schools (grades K-5), one high school (grades 7-12), and one college preparatory school which served students from grades 9 through 12 as well as adults who had left high school or dropped out to work their way up through the educational system. During World War II over 1,000 men worked at various military plants throughout Missouri; many residents did not return home during the war because they were called into service or went off to fight elsewhere; however most residents returned home once hostilities ended and things began to normalize again within our community back in 1945 with over $10 million being invested into new infrastructure projects that included sewerage systems, streetlights and other public improvements such as parks that still exist today!
