Nixa, Missouri is a town located in Harrison County, Missouri, United States. The population was 2,636 at the 2010 census. Nixa is part of the Kansas City metropolitan area. The first settlement in what is now Nixa was founded by Germans in 1834. The name "Nixa" means "place where there are no trees." A post office called Nixa was established in 1841, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1865. In 1859, a company of Czech immigrants organized to purchase land north of present-day Harrisonville for the purpose of erecting a new town. On October 10, 1860 the village of Nixa was platted and named after Felix Nagler, one of its founders. The site chosen for the new town had been donated by Colonel Samuel Davenport and his wife Eleanor Davenport Buell (1813-1896). Upon completion of the buildout project - which included laying out streets and building a courthouse - Nixa became an official Village on November 15th 1860. The community grew rapidly; by 1862 there were more than 100 residents living within two miles (3 kilometers) of downtown Nixa. In 1867 a railway station was built at Naxalburg on the Hannibal & Northern Railroad and soon freight trains arrived from all over America to load up with goods destined for Kansas City or Illinois mills. Business boomed as people flocked to live close to railroad tracks and jobs opened up for those who could afford it. A severe tornado struck central Harrison County on May 9th 1861 causing extensive damage including entire blocks destroyed or severely damaged homes; most notably at 5500 block of Elm Street where upwards Of 20 homes were completely obliterated leaving only their foundation standing among damages estimated at $100 000+ worth alone! In 1863 when Union General Robert Ewing replaced Ulysses S Grant as Commander-in-Chiefofthe Union Army he immediately began looking into ways to consolidate all military forces under one umbrella so that they might be better equipped against Confederate attacks across Missouri . One such effort was implemented by General Order No 8 dated December 1st 1863 called "Election Day Proclamation". This order requested each military regiment muster forthwith should any state not secede from the Union become Rebellion territory thereby subject to martial law under Ira Morningside Civil Government Regulations article XVIII which regulated local government within certain territories joining or becoming partOfthe Confederacy without popular vote! On election day many soldiers who had originally registered to vote instead decided to fight for their respective states instead voting later that morning while inside their barracks!!! Aftermath... due process violations rampant throughout military camps nationwide!!
