Nixa, Missouri is a small town in the extreme south-central portion of the United States. The population was 1,836 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Springfield, Missouri Micropolitan Statistical Area. The area that became Nixa was first settled by German immigrants in 1841. By 1865, the only other resident was a blacksmith named John Zimmerman who helped to build a road from Hannibal to Springfield. The community name originated with an early settler's daughter who suggested that it be called "Nixa" because she found no other word for an abandoned farmstead near her home. Nixa has experienced some success since its incorporation as a Village in 1978. In 2002, Nixa formed a partnership with neighboring towns of Carthage and Lebanon in order to create an economic development zone within the village boundaries known as "Stroudville". This program aimed to promote job growth and development in key sectors such as health care, technology, manufacturing and retail services. Today, Nixa is one of the most vibrant communities in southern Illinois due to its close proximity to Springfield and various cultural attractions including two major shopping malls - The Mall at Nixa Landing and Carter County Fairgrounds - as well as several restaurants and entertainment venues including Live Nation's iPic Theatre Resort & Casino (formerly Genoa Place) and The Forum sports arena (now Comcast Stadium).

Nixa grew quickly and by 1859 had a post office, school, and two stores. In 1860, the first railroad reached Nixa, and soon it became an important stop on the rails. By 1870, there were four shops in Nixa and over 100 residents. In 1881, the first church was built in Nixa and the population grew to over 200 people. The economy of Nixa changed during World War I when many businesses closed because of wartime shortages. However, after the war ended things picked up again thanks to new businesses such as a restaurant and hotel. During World War II there was also growth due to military recruitment but this ended after the war due to budgetary problems. In 1951 NixaL began programs which provide job training for high school students called “The Campus Program” which has helped many locals get their careers off the ground since then.
Nixa, Missouri is a small town in Clay County, Missouri, United States. The population was 2,811 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Clay County. Nixa was founded in 1837 and named for Lieutenant Colonel David Nixam of the Union Army during the American Civil War.
