Nixa, Missouri is a small town located in Jackson County, Missouri. The population was 721 at the 2000 census and 810 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Kansas City Metropolitan Statistical Area. Nixa is known for its annual cheese festival which takes place in September. Nixa was founded as a station on the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway in 1881. The first post office was established in Nixa in 1885. In 1907, the name of the town changed to Nixa after General James Fenton Nix who fought during the Mexican-American War and later served as governor of Kansas Territory. The town had a population of 1,100 when it lost its status as an agricultural center due to railroad competition and development by Wichita, KS. However, over time some residents returned to farming while others invested money into businesses such as grocery stores, banks and a sawmill that still operates today. The cheese festival has been one of the longest running events in town history with more than 50 years since it began as a day-long event on September 15th where people from all around come to taste local cheese products for free or for just $5 per person! Today there are several businesses in Nixa that continue to thrive thanks to their customers who have supported them over the years including: Barnes & Noble bookstore; KFC restaurant; Chrysler dealership; Ford dealership; Piggly Wiggly convenience store; Jeep dealership and numerous other small businesses which have helped make this community one of success story for both locals and visitors alike!

The town of Nixa, Missouri was founded on the banks of the Arkansas River in 1836 by John S. and Anna M. Phelps. The town became a railroad stop on the Santa Fe Railroad in 1853, and developed into a small community with several stores and a school. After World War II, Nixa grew increasingly commercialized as the oil industry boomed in Texas and Oklahoma. Nixa is located at 38°30′03″N 90°14′24″W (38.9609097°N 90.323922°W). It has an elevation of 384 feet (138 meters). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.5 square miles (1 km²), all land. The water frontage along US-270 forms most of its eastern boundary; other boundaries include I-435 to its south and east and MO-2A north to its west. As of 2010 census results released byMissouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT), there were 526 people living in Nixa City limits - 498 residents lived within 1 mile (1 km) of downtown while another 112 reside within 3 miles (5 km) or less from downtown except for MO-2A which spans 6 miles across from downtown central business district/northern edge As reported by MoDOT's 2011 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report: "In 2010 Fuqua had no assets worth more than $10 million that would have allowed him or any affiliate thereof to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection." This compares with Fuqua's predecessor company Springfield Electric Power Co., Inc., which had assets totaling $153 million when it filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in 2009 after experiencing financial problems over three years earlier--$111 million related directly to retiree benefits payments made out of electricity sales generated bySpringfield Electric PowerCo.,Inc.; $27 million associated with debt service payments on these same debts incurred through retiree benefits payments; meanwhileFuqua himself had declared bankruptcy once before because his wife took controlof their bankruptcies legal situation following her husband's death two years earlier
Nixa, Missouri was founded on December 4, 1836, by George Washington and his wife Martha. The town was named after General Nixa's Creek in Tennessee. It grew rapidly during the early 1840s because of its location at the head of a major watercourse and its access to goods brought down the Missouri River. In 1846, Nixa became an incorporated city and soon became a center of heavy industry due to its position at the mouth of the Rushmore Canal. The canal allowed for easy shipment of goods from Illinois to Kansas City. By 1860, Nixa had become one of the largest cities in Missouri. During World War I, Nixa played significant roles in both the American and British military campaigns against Austria-Hungary. In 1917, Mayor John Sweeny developed plans for enlarging local schools by adding a high school and creating a communityhall which would serve as headquarters for local defense committees. However, these plans were never fully realized due to budgetary constraints within city government. In 1940, Wichita Airlines began operations out of Nixa-Ford Airport; this led to increased population growth within Nixa-Ford Township which eventually led to the establishment of an adjacent municipality known as Wichita Township on November 3 that year. On October 12th 1945, when World War II ended with Japan's surrender, most industries had alreadyDeclared themselves inactive or been evacuated overseas; however a few small businesses still remained in operation such as breweries and grocery stores until they closed around 1960s due to competition from more modern supermarkets
