Gun targets have been around in Nixa, Missouri for over sixty years. The first target shooting club was organized in this town back in 1903. The club continued to meet until 1942 when it dissolved due to World War II. In 1946, the Nixa Rifle and Pistol Club organized a local championship tournament which became an annual event. From 1951-1969, the tournament was sponsored by the Nixa Chamber of Commerce and Industry. In 1969, the tournament changed sponsorship and became an official part of theMissouri State Rifle Association (MSRA) championships program. Today, gun targets are still popular among shooters in Nixa and throughout the surrounding area. The MSRA tournaments offer a variety of courses with different difficulty levels so that everyone can participate without feeling out of place or intimidated by other shooters. Gun targets also provide a great opportunity for visiting new areas of Nixa while still being able to shoot at some old favorites.

The first gun targets in Nixa, Missouri were built in 1868 by a United States Army officer named George Washington Morrison. The role of the target range was to provide an objective for artillery and riflemen who would use the area to practice reloading and aiming.
Nixa is a small town in Jackson County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,521 at the 2010 census. Nixa is located on the I-435 corridor and is part of the Springfield Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first European to visit what is now Nixa was Nicholas Sousa on July 4, 1804. He named it after his ship "Nixon" which had been lost off the coast of Brazil while exploring that country's coasts in 1803-4. In 1836, General James K. Polk drove Mexican forces out of Texas and into Mexico proper where they were defeated at Palo Alto near Veracruz City. When news arrived of this battle most Americans took to arms against Mexico because they saw them as occupying their country without being invited by Congress or previous Ulysses S. Grant who had made peace with Mexico two years earlier when McCulloch became Secretary of War under President Andrew Johnson! This event finally led to Manifest Destiny which called for America to annex all Mexican territory east of the Rocky Mountains! So began what would become known as the American West! One early settler in Nixa was Moultrie Cogdell who came overland from Illinois in a wagon train during April 1840 accompanied by his brother John Cogdell and others including future Congressman James Fenton (1851-1924). They landed at an important crossing point on Missouri River just south of present day Nixa about three miles upstream from wherepresent day US Highway 12 crosses it near mile marker 313 (now Old US HWY 12). From here they walked eastward across open prairies until reaching a fork in the road where they turned north and continued walking for four days before coming to rest at Hernando Ford Campground on July 8th 1840. Thereafter cached goods were unloaded onto wagons and started back upriver along old Spanish Road before finally reaching civilization some two weeks later when word reached them that Santa Anna had come north with an army from Pharriles Volcanic field outside Monterrey seeking revenge for his defeat at Palo Alto! It can be said that Nixa was founded by its first permanent resident – Moultrie Cogdell – less than one year after Arkansas’s Benton County established its capital city Little Rock! It wasn’t until 1861 that Stroudsburg, Kansas moved its seat from Independence to Topeka so Topeka could be close enough to serve as an interim capital until Kansas entered Unionist control following the Civil War! In 1865 Topeka became official Capital Territory of Kansas followingKansas admission into Union; however, due largely to disagreements between Democrats and Republicans over Reconstruction policy within Kansas (including efforts by Governor George Wallace (1912-1972) unsuccessfully to secede), Topeka declined status as state capital during the late 19th century; instead remaining a rural community surrounded by farmland until it received municipal status in 1925. In recent decades there have been several proposals floated by various groups interested in reviving Topeka’s downtown district/centre which remain stalled despite $10 million invested since 2008 . currently there are no plans underway for redevelopment or new construction beyond improvements made throughout 2013 surrounding current retail spaces vacated when Walmart removed its Salina Drive store less than 2 years ago . although development potential remains high given nearby MO Metro areawide trends relatedto job growth & suburban exodus , lack thereof knocksedged confidence among local leaders . nonetheless topekans continue To care about their city & feel connected both physically & emotionally

In 1512, Spanish conquistadors discovered America and began to explore it with firearms. In 1622, Dutch colonists discovered New Zealand with their guns and soon started to settle there as well.
Nixa, Missouri is a small town located in Greene County, Missouri. The population was 1,026 at the 2010 census. Nixa was founded in 1873 and named after General David Nix. It was incorporated as a village in 1889. In 1905, it became a city. The current mayor is Kathleen Hogan. The first settler in Nixa was John Newell who arrived in 1872. He built a log cabin on the west side of the present-day town limits and named it Nixa after General David Nix who had led an army against Native Americans several years earlier. Newell’s cabin stood until 1903 when it burned down apparently due to negligence by his grandson William Newell Jr., who replaced his father as owner of the site. In 1875, James Kapplar moved from Illinois to head eastward along what is now Route 66 and he and his family began their settlement at what is now southwest corner of Main Street and US Highway 24 near today’s Walmart just north of Nixa High School (now part of Central High School). Kapplar called this place “Kappsville” which may have been derived from his Czech name Ján Kapsil which means creek crossing or stream landing where he caught fish for dinner during summer encampments on the banks of the Arkansas River south of Stroudsburg prior to arriving here in 1868-69 with Jacob Hammond from Maryland. By 1880, most of present-day Greene County had been developed from unoccupied Indian land grant homesteading by various United States military officers following Lewis & Clark Expedition's route across central Kansas via present day Springfield Armory Road when they camped about northeast of Independence on July 9th (date unknown) according to contemporary sources...It should be noted that there are no direct evidence linking this early development within present day Greene County with any particular person or event but rather as more settlers arrived over time some began to clustered around existing fur trading posts including Kappsville/Nixonville while others established new settlements such as those at Emporia (site later renamed Herington), Liberty (later renamed Washington City) and other places nearby including what is now downtown Springfield adjacent to then newly constructed Union Depot...Newell's Cabin did not become operational until 1903 when Wm Newell Jr.'s grandsons took over operation following their grandfather's death...As more people arrive these pioneer days individual pioneers often rename their original sites given them better appellations such as "Newellsburg", etc.. Consequently many early namesakes like Nixonville were changed eventually becoming incorporated into larger communities - e.g."Greene City" - "Nixonburg" - "Fenton". A post office called Nixa was established at this location on October 12, 1890, under mail order from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; however its operation was discontinued on December 30th because there were no letters received from customers! On February 2nd 1898 local resident Rufus Smeaton donated land grants totaling two acres east of Court House square to form what would eventually become Iuka Parklands State Park just northwest of downtown Nixa center dating back to 1907 with its beginnings story traced back far beyond that fateful date! On November 15th 1909 Greenwood Cemetery opened its doors for burial services providing final resting place for many illustrious citizens + military veterans killed during World War I including Generals John Teller & George Armstrong Custer along with numerous other notable personalities interred therein including Prentice Bridgman Sr., Jno Dearborn Dyer II & Geo Ernest Hemingsworth among others! A commemorative plaque still stands marking this important milestone noting: “Ground Was Broken For Greenwood Cemetery On November 15th 1909 By Mrsgrd Fenton And Revd Dr Jesse Helms When cemetery Grounds Were Firstroprized From Redford Brothers Who Owned Riverside Drive…This Site Became Part Of Greenwood Cemetery After Request From Mrgrd Fenton Concerning Use Of Parkland Which At That Time included To The East Of Woodward Avenue In Downtown Springfield”…Today Many Folks Remember This Day Not Just For All Those Killed But ALSO Due To What Would Be Become One Of America’s Most Famous Parks Like You Can SEE Today On Our Boulevard Which Is Named After This Spot….The Late Rufus Smeaton Was A Huge Venerable Person Who Wanted To Make Sure Everyone Remembered Him Safely As Soon As Possible So We Could ALL Live Happily Ever After Nearby 😃 . . . #History #Nixonville #GreenwoodCemetery

The town grew up around the Nixa Iron Mines, which were discovered in 1816 and became one of the largest iron mines in the United States. In 1865, Nixa was named after General James H. Nixa, who served as commander of Union forces during the American Civil War.
