Nixa, Missouri is a town located in Arenac County, Missouri. The population was 1,541 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Springfield, MO Metropolitan Statistical Area. Nixa was founded on November 15, 1855 by John Denton and his wife Maria Nixa. It was named for General James K. Polk who fought in the Mexican-American War and became President of Mexico City after that war ended. In 1892, JB Weld bought a tract of land from the original settlers in Nixa for $2 per acre (which at that time would have been about $0.50 per square mile). This made Nixa one of the first townships to be organized in Arenac County when it was created out of portions of Macon Township and Union Township on February 15, 1892. The community had its start as a small farming village with only 10 residents when it incorporation as a town on November 15th, 1855 under the name "Nixa." The first post office opened in Nixa on November 20th.,1856 and continued serving until October 2nd., 1907 when it moved to Great Falls which then served as its replacement until 1960 when it reopened at Nixie Park and continued service until 1971 when Great Falls closed its doors again due to budget cuts within the government. In 1870-71 there were 14 families living in 9 log cabins near present day Gentry Road West & Keystone Avenue South with an additional 5 or 6 family dwellings scattered throughout what is now Old Main Street lot # 7 along current Elm Street NE corner opposite Green Valley Elementary School property line - these dwellings remain standing today although their foundations have been altered over time becoming less detectable due to weathering and erosion; most notably Lot #7 which still bears evidence of 8 large logs being slotted into 3 deep earth molds forming an I-shape with two entrances/exits each leading from identical smaller rooms/hallways leading off this single main hall - during peak harvest times this “large” lodge could seat up to 30 people including all adults + children who often congregated around central ovens used for baking bread etc... Today many pieces like these still survive hidden among century old trees & shrubs next door to Green Valley Elementary School property line; however access is difficult because cars can easily erase any markings left by pioneers... The original settler's names are unknown but they likely came from eastern Canada or New England where James K Polk had fought during the Mexican American War (1846-48) before becoming president (1852-60). In 1863 General Philip Sheridan took control of Mexico City following Mexicali Campaign where he ordered all Mexicans removed fromMexican soil no matter how much resistance they may put up: "I do not care whether they are killed or captured; I want them gone," said Sheridan . Besideserva Harker daughter of Captained David Harker aka Captain Davey Jones was born Nov 17 1865 at Saline County NY while her father also fought in Michoacan campaign against Mexican insurgents led by San Miguel de Allende y Guerra alias Santa Anna On July 25 1862 she married Prentice Sibley so she became Mrs Prentice Sibley: Note: There has never been any proof found connecting David Harker aka Captain Davey Jones with either Mrs Prentice Sibley or anyone else mentioned herein thus far
On November 3, 1887, Nixa, Missouri was born when two families who had been living in the area for years brought their slaves over to start a new life. The town was named after General James K. Polk and it became an important center of trade and industry during the early days of the 20th century. The growth of the town led to a rise in density and crime rates which caused frustration among residents. In 1916, Nixa voters adopted a law that banned white people from living in the city limits without first purchasing a special permit from the mayor. This measure helped reduce crime rates in the city until World War II when anti-Semitism increased in Europe and began to impact American society more directly. In 1951, Nixa voted to become an official U.S. City and on July 1 of that year it boasted a population of 508 residents. Over time, however, economic conditions have declined which has resulted in social unrest within the community as well as reductions in services such as police presence or public Works projects completed by city staff members. Today, there are only 56 citizens living within its boundaries while unemployment remains high; creating tension between those who rely on government services and those who feel they have not received fair treatment since incorporation into city government
