In 1861, the first gun stores in Nixa opened. By 1865, Nixa had a population of about 150 people and twogun shops were opening daily. Rifle and shotgun manufacturers set up shop in downtown Nixa, manufacturing their firearms here. The early years of the 20th century were a time of great change for Missouri. With the admission of Kansas into the Union in 1846, Native Americans who lived on Indian reservations in western Missouri began to leave their reserves to move westward. This migration increased violence on these reservations and led to many massacres of innocent Indians by white settlers. In response to this tragedy, General Harney ordered Ulysses S. Grant to take control of all Indian reservations in Missouri Territory and make them self-governing units with voting rights. The Gun Manufacturer's Association was founded in 1901 in order to promote industry within the community and protect small arms manufacturers from competition from larger companies. In 1907, Ammunition Corporation moved its operations from Topeka to Nixa because it felt that local regulation was too restrictive when compared to ammunition produced by national brands like Winchester and Colt Industries Incorporated. The Businessmen's Association (BBA) was formed in 1912 as an organization dedicated to promoting business within the community through education and networking opportunities for members. From its inception until 1945, the BBA successfully lobbied for regulations that would protect small arms manufacturers from foreign competitors while also protecting public safety by ensuring that firearms were not diverted away from legitimate purposes or used against civilians without proper training or Certification

After the war, many people moved into Nixa, including some relocated from other nearby towns because of changes taking place in rural America during that time period such as urbanization and technological advances. In recent years, there has been growth yet again around Nixa which can be seen evident most notably in downtown where new development has taken place such as a shopping mall (with several high-end stores), apartments, and a large hospital complex just north of town (the only one within 50 miles).

Nixa, Missouri is a town in Holt County, Missouri, United States. The population was 2,811 at the 2010 census. It was founded in 1855 by John Nix and his wife Susannah Nix. The first post office in Nixa was established on July 6, 1855, and was called Indianola. In 1857, the name of the town changed to Nixa after John Nix's father-in-law, Nathan Bedford Nix. The first store in the town opened on December 12 of that year. In 1865 the railroad arrived and soon industry had taken over the town with two mills making flour and cloth; a tannery; three sawmills; two churches (one Congregational) and one schoolhouse being built during that time frame. A cotton gin was also erected near by around 1870 which made cotton production an important part of local economy for many years until it closed down about 1930 due to competition from other industries. Nixon Hall State Historic Site is located in downtown Nixa on Main Street between First Avenue and Elm Street. It is named for Christopher Nixon who served as Mayor of Kansas City from 1893-1896 and as Vice President under Grover Cleveland from 1897-1901. The house he lived in from 1889 to 1901 is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places as part of the Richardson House District #6B1A2D2H92775
In the year 1853, Nixa, Missouri was founded by George M. Dowling and his wife Nancy. The town was named after the creek that ran through it. By 1860, Nixa had a population of about 100 people and was a stop on the Underground Railroad. In 1865, Nixa became a Uniontown when all of Missouri except for St. Louis seceded from the United States in order to form the Confederate States of America. After the war ended, Nixa's population decreased as many residents left for better opportunities in other states. In 1920, Nixa became an independent city and is still thriving today with a population over 500 people.
