During World War II, many servicemen from Nixa enlisted in military service outside of Missouri; as a result of this large influx of people into town during that time period, some aspects of life changed dramatically for many locals. Starting around 1942 until 1945 (when hostilities ended), most homes on Main Street were occupied by American soldiers stationed nearby at Fort Leonard Wood or Camp Robinson; as such, few houses on either side of Main Street remained unoccupied for more than a year or so at a time during that time period.
