Neosho, Missouri is a small town in Jackson County, Missouri. The population was 2,812 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Jackson County. The first settler in Neosho was Daniel Brown and his family who arrived in 1837. In 1839, Samuel Hays founded a gristmill on the banks of the Neosho River. The mill became known as "Hays' Mill." In 1863, J.B. Cook and his brother James built a sawmill on the river near present-day Neosho High School. At that time, Neosho was part of Johnson County and no other mills existed within its borders! The Sawmills closed in 1966 but they left their mark on the community - many residents still recall going to work at either mill during those early days! Neosho's post office opened in 1870 and remained open until it closed in 1944; however, it remains one of the few rural post offices still operational today! A local general store opened soon after and lasted until 1958; it is now occupied by an adjoining restaurant called "The Old Mill" which also has an extensive antiques collection!. One of history's most significant events occurred when President Harry S Truman visited Neosho on May 4th 1948 for a campaign rally – he stopped at Hays' Mill for lunch! Neosho experienced Rapid Growth during World War II as several factories were developed nearby creating jobs for locals. After the war ended, many businesses closed down while others moved out or merged with others; however, several local families have kept up business activities through word-of-mouth tiebacks ever since! In recent years there has been some revitalization activity taking place with new development downtown including a major renovation project that began last year which should bring much needed retail traffic to town center – stay tuned for updates…

However, through gentrification and support from local businesses, Neosho has regained its former glory as an arts and culture center. Today, Neosho is a vibrant community that offers residents opportunities for education and affordable housing.
Neosho was founded on the banks of the Missouri River in 1836 by families from Illinois. The town grew quickly, and by 1854 it had a population of over 1,000 people. In 1857, Neosho became a city, and in 1871 it merged with neighboring St. Louis to form the larger city of St. Louis-Neosho-Milton. The merger led to increased competition between the two cities, which caused some economic problems. In 1907, Neosho annexed the nearby town of Highland Park into its city limits.
