Neosho, Missouri is a small town in the Ozarks region of Missouri. It is located in Daviess County, north-central Missouri on the banks of the Neosho River. The population was 1,597 at the 2010 census. Neosho was founded by German colonists in 1836. The name means "near the water" and it comes from French meaning "Nose Hill." In 1853, a post office was started in Neosho and remained open until 1907. In 1871, an oil well was drilled near Neosho and production began soon after. By 1893, there were over 20 businesses in Neosho with over 100 employees. In 1904, Neosho established its own school district which continues to operate today as Neosho Unified School District #1. A number of prominent citizens including Judge Augustus Ewing (1861-1939), Drury Ladd (1863-1937), Gussie Moran (bibliography) and Lewis Biddle (1797-1875) donated land for schools throughout Daviess County. Today, there are 12 elementary schools and 5 junior high Schools within NEOSHOUSD #1; along with 2 high schools which serve asAlternate Day/Workshops for students who cannot attend regular public schools due to special needs or other reasons. The community also enjoys many cultural amenities such as a performing arts hall called the Pigeon Forge Performing Arts Center which has stage space for plays and music concerts; two golf courses; several restaurants including one that serves locally sourced cuisine; several sporting events each year including men's & women's soccer; annual pumpkin patch festival etc.; numerous festivals throughout the year featuring art exhibits, food trucks etc.; plus much more!

Strolling through the small town center on a recent morning I spied several interesting buildings including the old brick county jail which served as the seat of justice from 1839 until 1888 when it moved to DeKalb; a blacksmith shop; and a Methodist church dating back to 1855. There are also several small businesses located around the central square - including two gas stations, one convenience store, and one restaurant - all of which have been in business since before Neosho even began to form as a community! One of my favorite things about living in Neosho is that there's always something going on! Whether it be farmers markets or antique shows/buyers clubs, there's always something happening here that keeps things busy! Weekends are especially lively with people coming out for various family activities like barbecues or picnics; during weekdays you can usually find plenty of shoppers at local retailers or filling up on groceries before hitting the bars or restaurants nearby. In short, this little corner of Missouri has some really great things going for it – whether you're looking for some good coffee or just some friendly company, Neosho has got you covered!
