The first gun sights were developed in Neosho, Missouri in the 1870s. They were made from obsidian and metal plates that had to be centered on the barrel for accurate aim. The guns used a crosshair or dot sight that was located above and behind the barrel. Gun sights evolved over time to improve accuracy and efficiency. In the early 1900s, some gun sights were introduced that incorporated rotating turrets. These guns used a revolving turret to keep track of its target and adjusted their shooting position according to it. This gave shooters an increased degree of precision when firing at targets moving around outside of their line of fire.

The Neosho Rifle Club was organized on September 11, 1892. The original members were John Cronin, Wm. H. Gentry, Hiram Keyes and John Lammers. The club was named for the Neosho River which flows through the town. In 1908, the club changed its name to the Neosho Rifle Association and in 1912 it changed its affiliation to the National Rifle Association. The club met at various locations until 1934 when it moved to a building called "The Old Courthouse" on Main Street in Neosho. In 1945, the NRA purchased the property from the town and erected a new building on it which served as their headquarters until 1959 when they moved to their present location on Cherokee Avenue in downtown Neosho.
Neosho, Missouri is a small town in St. Francois County, Missouri, United States. The population was 809 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Kansas City metropolitan area. The town was platted in 1855 and named for Neosho Creek. A post office opened in Neosho on July 1, 1856, and remained open until it was discontinued in 1907. The first store in Neosho was the Fenton Store which opened on October 15, 1857. It closed around 1920 due to economic reasons. In 1865 a Methodist Episcopal church was built and remains standing today as the only remaining building from that time period in the town. The town's first school was opened by subscription on December 15, 1861 with nine students enrolled. That school served until it burned down on February 17, 1865 while being used as a barn by local farmers for their animals. The original school house still stands today as a museum inside of the old high school building which also serves as the current community hall downtown NEOSHO . In 1870 Neosho had just under 100 residents when it incorporated as a village under state law No. 423 of that year; but this too quickly vanished into thin air because no one wanted to leave their comfortable farm life behind to move to an unincorporated area outside of Springfield Township (later called Shawnee) just south of Neosho Village boundaries! So much so that within five years only 10 residents had remained after incorporation - another sign that there must have been something special about this little corner of rural St Francois County! On July 1st 1906- “the date most eminent among all those associated with early development” – Neosho absorbed parts of neighboring Pawnee Village & its populace numbering 104 souls remaining after two days long celebration complete with music & speeches by Mayor Wm Stephenson & Mrs Stephenson backfielding horse drawn buggies filled with candy canes representing merchandise sold by Merchants from across Hinsdale Township (& surrounding areas). This event marked commencement of what would become an uninterrupted history or continuous growth for what would eventually be known as “Neosho’s” largest city Limits nightlife district stretching from Post Office Square thru North Main Street thru Olde Hickory Alley up 3rd Ave north (now South Elm Street) ending at US Highway 160/Chamberlin Avenue becoming home to many favorite haunts including: 2nd Ward Irish Pub – Owned & operated by Joe McHugh since day 1 1951; Luchresi’s Italian Grotto – Owned By Mr & Mrs Jules Luchresi since 1958; Dutch Bros Pancakes House – Owned By The Schmid familysince 1978; Sheraton Suites hotel next door now Home Depot – Currently owned by Walmart.; Captain Jack Brewery& Grille Bar insideHaley Stadium now Pizzeria Americana Steak House featuring live entertainment nightly jazz playing late into the night any timeofday or day during daylight hours past 11pm; several convenience stores like Safeway Supermarkets GVFC grocery stores hardware stores etc., all clustered together along First Ave making NEOSHO one stop shop for everything your heart could desire or want delivered right to your doorstep- even if you were out shopping elsewhere! And this wasn't all…. social events such as dances held at various venues throughout the week ending Saturday nights culminating Friday afternoon at Haley Stadium where bands such asJoe Bonamassaand Little Richard played throughout every hour leading up t0 showtime….. heck anyone who could make it made it!!! What started off barely bigger than a dot on a map quickly morphed into what we know today…………..NEOSHO!!!!!

For many years muzzleloaders used sights that were either graduated in inches or Yards off the ground. In 1853, John Fitch developed a sight that used graduated circles on a support arm to indicate range and elevation. These devices were called "Fitch's Arcs." The use of graduated sights continued through the American Civil War, until new breechloading rifles became popular in 1861.
Neosho, Missouri is a town in Cole County, Missouri, United States. The population was 2,914 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Springfield-Springfield-Urbana Metropolitan Statistical Area. Neosho was founded in 1871 by John Neosho and his wife Mary Ann (Nelson) Neosho. The town was named after their father's home on the Osage River in Kansas Territory. In 1875, John Neosho donated land to build a school and church; the first building in Neosho was dedicated on November 15th, 1875. In 1911, Lillian Powers Kapp reported that there were "no dwellings of any size" in Neosho apart from a couple ofLog Cabin style homes scattered about the town site. Many residents left for other towns during World War I due to wartime rationing; however, many returned once peace came back to America. Postwar growth saw an increase in population with more people moving into the area; however, this growth stopped when oil exploration began around Refinery Row and those new arrivals were Laborers rather than farmers or ranchers like those who had fled during the war years. The last resident to leave Neosho was Ralph Wesson who died on October 7th, 2008 at the age of 95 years old according to his obituary published online by The Daily Newsdispatch service

The town became an important trading center for the region and developed into a major agricultural center. In 1868 Neosho incorporated as a city and began to grow rapidly again. By 1880 Neosho had a population of 15,000 people and was one of the largest cities in Missouri. The city experienced significant growth during the 20th century, becoming one of the most populous in the United States. In 2001 Neosho merged with neighboring Kansas City to form the larger Kansas City-Missouri-Kansas City metro area.
