Neosho, Missouri is a small town in the Ozarks located about 20 miles north of Springfield, Missouri. The population was 892 at the 2010 census. Gun parts history in Neosho begins with the arrival of settlers in what is now Neosho in 1837. One of the first businesses established in Neosho was a post office and general store. In 1843, a sawmill and gristmill were built and operated by J.N. Pearce and Wm.Hickey respectively. Gun parts history began to be developed in Neosho when Johnnie Gillespie bought land adjacent to present day Higgins Road in 1859 for $3 per acre (about $10 per square mile). Gillespie developed a mill that produced flour, cloth, rope and other goods for local merchants and government officials throughout Missouri before moving his business to Hannibal, Illinois in 1865. Gillespie's mill became one of the largest textile mills on the Great Lakes region before he moved his operation to Neosho in 1867. The first gunsmith shop opened up shop on Higgins Road just north of present day Park Avenue between 1860-1861 by Hiram Sibley who had come from Hannibal, Illinois while working for Johnnie Gillespie's mill. By 1861, Sibley had become well-known within the community as an experienced gunsmith and member of numerous rifle clubs around Kansas City including those that organized Frontier Days events held each fall at County Fairgrounds near Independence Center where Fourth of July fireworks displays are still enjoyed today! After several years operating out of his home on Higgins Road until 1870 when he relocated to what is now First National Bank building on Main Street (now Barton Drive), Hiram Sibley handcrafts all manner of firearms including pistols, shotguns etc., which can still be found around town today along with many rare Firearms Pieces collected over time! Some examples include: A .22 caliber revolver made by H & L Smith & Wesson that was used by Sheriff Samuel Fenton during histerm starting from 1871 until shortly after his death on September 17th 1875; A fine example OFa Colt “Patriots” Revolver manufactured by Peacemaker Arms Company; A .30 caliber Ruger Repeater pistolmanufactured by Iver Johnson; A very early production model Henry rifle manufactured circa 1860 based upon designs submitted to Government authorities prior to their approval being granted; Many more… truly unique pieces not often seen elsewhere! In 1902 William Kapp devotee entered into partnership with fellow gunsmith George Vaught who resided adjacent to Kapp's old store Building #2 currently occupied by Pinnacle Carpet Cleaners) making all types rifles bolts action revolvers shotguns bows through process called "Vaughtizing" which involved lapping or roughing off portions(less than 1/8 inch) off receivers making them ready for engraving with a dielectric coating resulting in beautiful etching patterns usually found only on Confederate period swords etc.) All type firearms such as trapdoor hammers Mossberg 500 shotguns Ivoryhandled pistols Winchester Model 1886 chambered arms firearms etc.), this company becoming known simply as "Kapp Mfg." It wasn't until 1935 when WW II interrupted production due to World War II that sales reverted back TO original owners George Vaught &William Kapp who continued operations until their deaths circa 1975 & 1978respectively!) In 1949 James Cramer purchased Kapp Mfg., continuing operations until 1970 primarily producing classic hunting rifles such as Remington 700 actions Beretta 92fs single shot pistols , Marlin 1895 lever action rifles Springfield Armory 1911 handguns among others!) Today there are few remaining employees left remnant inventory includes some extremely rare items such as an original issue Winchester Model 1886 pump shotgun formerly owned by Bill Beaumont)

It was named for General Israel Neosho of the Union army who helped repel an invasion by the Kanabas in 1847. The town grew rapidly due to its location on the Kansas River and its access to railroad transportation. In 1903, Neosho became an incorporated city. In 2002, Neosho voters passed a resolution recognizing Mayan ruins near the community as part of their history and culture. As a result, Neosho became home to one of the few Maya-owned towns in America. The ruins are now open to visitors every day from 9am until 4pm during daylight hours and 10am until 2pm at night; however, entrance fees are required for parking or taking pictures inside. Neosho is located at (39°27′00″N 95°48′00″W). According to the 2010 census, it has a total area of , of which is land and (1%) is water. The Kaskaskia River forms much of its eastern border and flows through it before enteringMissouri near Dunkirk City; thence into St Francois County about 3 miles SW where it borders Illinois about 12 miles WNW; thence eastward along US 66 through rural farmland for 16 miles before reaching Missouri again at Dunkirk City about 25 miles SENE from Springfield Township [now Clearwater Township] on I-270/I-64 NE whichRoute 66 northerly routed concurrent with US 64 east from Springfield until its southern terminus at MO lines E&W just past Naper's Lakeirtedge line SH & W edge of township limits near present-day Fenton Hills Presidential Park across county line w/ assistance from US Border Patrol agents
On December 12, 1831, a land grant of 4,000 acres was made to John C. Neosho by the United States Government. The area included the present-day town of Neosho and portions of Grass Creek, Armstrong County. The first settler in what is now Neosho was George White who arrived in 1836. By 1840, there were six families living in what is now the town of Neosho and three families lived on Grass Creek. The first school in what is now Neosho was built in 1841. In 1847, a post office was established at Neosho with Wm Halsey as the first mail carrier. A store was also opened at that time. In 1850, a sawmill and gristmill were erected here; these are still standing today. On November 10, 1860, General David Hunter attacked and burned Uniontown (now neighboring Grayslake) during the American Civil War; this event led to increased business activity at the Post Office and store at Neosho which continued until 1865 when it closed due to lack of customers. In 1865-66 an effort was made to build a railroad through this area but no progress was made until 1870 when an act of Congress approved funding for that project which resulted in completion within two years. At that time,Neosho became known as "the Junction City".
