Smith & Sons rifle dealers, another by H.G. Griggs Sporting Goods Company proprietors and a third by Rube Goldberg Gunsmithing Corporation operators (the latter two being located on Main Street). The years following World War II saw an even increase in activity as gunmakers turned to airguns as a new hot commodity. In fact, by 1951 there were six firearms manufacturers operating in town – four of which manufactured guns specifically for Airgun Day events (an annual event commemorating America’s entry into World War II) each year. The highlight of Airgun Day programming for many locals was often the appearance of local celebrities at gun shows held at various locations around town during that time period; these included Tom Mix (of Rockford), Jerry Lee Lewis and Elvis Presley both appearing at local shoots while also performing live on stage at nearby Municipal Auditorium! As recently as the early 1990s, local shooters still enjoyed some high-quality competition activity thanks to Airgun Days weekend tournaments hosted annually at several facilities throughout town. These days however, most competitive airgun action takes place online or through video conferences rather than locally-held events; nevertheless, enthusiasts from all over the country visit Neosho every autumn for what has become known as “The Great American Outdoor Shooting Festival”!
