In 1881, Cyrus McCormick and his son Charles started the McCormick & Co. company in Moberly, Missouri. The company made a variety of products including agricultural machinery, consumer goods, and military rifles. In 1911, the company merged with R. H. Macy Company to become Macy's Incorporated. In 1948, Macy's was acquired by J. P. Morgan & Co., which in turn was purchased by Sears Roebuck and Company in 1971. In 1994, Sears Holdings Corporation sold its remaining stake in Macy's to Kmart Corporation for $2 billion. The first optical accessory store in Moberly was opened by Harry R. Beyer in 1922. The store was located on the corner of Second and Elm streets. It was known as the Eye Department of the Grosse Pointe Extension Railroad. In 1926, Julius Kapp opened his own store, which became known as the Kapp Store. In 1935, the original building on Second Street was demolished and replaced with a new structure that still stands today. The Kapp Store became known as the Beyer & Cobb Optical Store. In 1964, Don Weinstock purchased the Beyer & Cobb Optical Store and renamed it Don Weinstock's Electronics and OpticsStore. The store remained open until 1984 when it closed its doors for good after experiencing financial difficulties.
Moberly, Missouri is a small town in the Ozarks of southern Missouri. The population was 1,921 at the 2010 census. Moberly is part of the Springfield metropolitan area. Moberly began as a Seminole Indian village on the banks of the Pecoma River about 1810. In 1853, General James K. Polk built Fort Sumter to protect against Confederate raiders and to act as an early warning system for Union forces marching through south-central Missouri. The fort was destroyed by Confederate artillery in 1861 and never rebuilt; it has been replaced by a small park on Main Street near Fort Sumter. In 1865, Moberly became one of several towns in central Missouri organized to resist Ulysses S. Grant's occupation of that state during the American Civil War. When Union forces marched through Moberly on their way from Cairo to Springfield on November 25, 1865, they found a mob gathered around the courthouse square waiting to burn it down; they were quickly dispersed by order of General John Greshams III who estimated that more than 100 people had died in this violence (the actual number may be higher). When Kansas entered the United States as a result of our admission into Confederation on August 27, 1867, Moberly lost its claim to be within Kansas but continued to serve as its capital until February 14, 1870 when Topeka was chosen as that city's permanent seat – all while under military occupation from Confederate troops quartered in nearby Lawrenceburg Fortress until May 8th when they withdrew finally after learning there was no hope of achieving success against such vast numbers of Federal soldiers. The post office at Moberly operated continuously from July 5th 1860 until October 2nd 1870 when it merged with those located at Hannibal and Atchison City; both offices closed due largely to lack of population growth throughout those years which would have required new buildings or extensions thereto (the last post office opened in Topeka on December 6th 1870). In 1903 Wm Halsey & Sons mercantile store burned which caused $50000 damage which made it one of only two major fires in MO during that year according also settingTLH first fire inside US Custom House ever documented #2 being set back aginst Masonic Temple Aug 3 1889 just blocks away
In 1810, British scientist Sir John Herschel discovered the sun's atmosphere and its particles. He also noticed that some of the gas planets (Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus) had features that differed from their counterparts in the sun's surface area. Herschel designed a telescope to study these objects and found that they were all round, compared to what he had thought. He named this new instrument an "optical spectrograph." This instrument was able to see different types of light waves and determined their frequencies. This discovery allowed astronomers to determine things like how big planets are (based on their brightness), where stars lie in space (based on their distances from other stars), and even what type of gas planet is orbiting a star! Herschel's optical spectrograph remains one of the most important instruments in astronomical history because it helped scientists learn so much about our universe.

Moberly, Missouri is a small town in the Ozarks region of southwest Missouri. The population was 1,876 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Rolla-based Jackson County seat. Moberly's history began with early settlers who arrived in 1836. The community was platted in 1838 by George Wagoner and James Cline. A post office was established in Moberly in 1840, and a courthouse and jail were built in 1849. In 1861, Confederate General Robert E Lee moved his headquarters from Vicksburg to Moberly after his army retreated from that city following Union advances into Mississippi. Moberly experienced several floods during the late 1800s and early 1900s due to heavy rains caused by storms on the Arkansas River north of town. One such flood occurred on February 12, 1914 when water levels reached over 100 feet at a local creek near Central High School; damage totaled $5,000 for property damage and loss of crops valued at $25,000 (the total amount recovered during an entire year). In 2003, Moberly became home to one of two remaining Boeing 727 assembly plants located outside Seattle; this plant closed its doors after 25 years of production (the other plant closed in 1992). The plant's closure left a hole in the regional economy which has been partially filled by online sales of used planes since then according to data gathered by RentalCorp Research LLC., Inc., a not-for-profit research company that specializes exclusively in market analysis of airport leases around the world. The first residents who lived here were Congregationalists from Vermont who came down riverboats to start new lives hereabouts about 1830 or so according to one source including Reverend John Goodspeed (1792-1868) himself although another account puts their arrival much earlier - about 1824 or 1830 based on evidence found at what once was called "Muddy Creek". They brought with them their church buildings which they erected on some high ground just eastside of present day Main Street between what are now Banks Avenue eastward beyond Eight Mile Road (&this land later became known as Clearwater development), until within 2 years after landing they sold all their possessions back upstream along current US 71 south across 8 Mile road including lots now occupied by Clearwater Development & parts now occupied by Ford dealership before finally settling permanently near present day bankside site about 1830 as Congregationalist refugees having come ashore along current Kansas line looking for better prospects than further up stream where religious services could be held only under difficult conditions amid hostile Native American natives already living thereabouts & hostilities continuing even after Fords sale
Moberly was founded in 1812 by brothers John and David Moberly. The town became a part of the Union when Missouri became a state in 1861. It was destroyed by fire in 1904.
