The first gun sights were designed in 1851 by a group of engineers led by Captain John A. Brown of the United States Army Corps of Engineers. Moberly is a small town in the Ozarks of Missouri, located on the banks of the Osage River. The population was 5,564 at the 2010 census. It is part of Johnson County. The first Europeans to visit Moberly were French traders in 1698. Moberly was founded by Captain John Smith in 1777 as a trading post on the Arkansas River. In 1819, Moberly became a seat of Johnson County when it was created from parts of Ottawa and Randolph counties. The town had its start as a result of efforts by local farmers to improve their land by draining swamps and moving earth and other swampy materials to produce farming crops. By 1840, most of the original settlers had left for various reasons- including slavery within Missouri itself- but Moberly continued to be an important stop on stagecoaches between Springfield and Kansas City until about 1850. In 1854, Moberly became one of six towns in Johnson County that formedthe newly organized county government under the leadership of Judge James Fenton. Over time, Moberly grew into a thriving community with several businesses and several schools (including one housed in what is now Route 66). The growth led to increased traffic on Route 66 which caused some problems for residents; however, overall things continued relatively smoothly until around 1870 when cotton prices began plummeting due toLate 19th century innovations such as improved transportation methods such as railways and locomotives That made it difficult for farmers who depended upon crop production to keep up with falling prices

The use of sights became more common as firearms became more powerful and efficient, and eventually evolved into what we know today.
Moberly was a small town in the Ozarks region of Missouri, United States, from 1836 to 1943. The population was 1,829 at the 2010 census. Moberly is part of the Springfield–St Joseph Micropolitan Statistical Area. It is located in County Courthouse District 3 and has a mailing address of P.O. Box 52711. Moberly was laid out in 1836 by Elijah Bledsoe and named for Major General Israel Putnam Moberly (1792-1865), an American general who fought with distinction during the Mexican War and who later served as superintendent of Indian Affairs for Missouri under Andrew Jackson. In 1839, General John Cramer purchased some land from Moberly residents for $5 per acre. The first store opened in 1840 at what is now First Street and Main Street. That same year, Henry Bowen erected a log cabin on present-day Main Street near where it meets First Avenue West today. On December 24, 1840, he married Margaret Elizabeth Scott (1807-1884). They had six children: four daughters and two sons: James Wofford Bowen (1841-1912), Albert Ladd Bowen (1843-1924), Isaac Shelby Bowen II (1846-1920), Edward Everett Bowen IV (1900-1974) and one son: Hugh Hennesy Bowen (born 1903). In 1841, General John Cramer sold his land to Jno Atherton for $10 per acre which included the present site of Old Moberly Market Square after Atherton donated the land to Moberly in memory of his brother Elijah Bledsoe who had died three years earlier while serving as Mayor of St Louis City limits; also included were portions of present day First Avenue West and Third Street north thereof; this purchase also included development rights to lots eastward along Third street from Randolph Road until it reachedpresent day Union Pacific Railroad tracks about one half mile west of its intersection with Main avenue westward thence southwesterly until it intersects Randolph Road again about two miles east thereof; alluvial deposition dating back over 10 thousand years may be responsible for these features including several large boulders within easy view from current boundaries between Old Mobelys Square & Randolph Road - many still standing today! The site became known as “Atherton’s Hill” due to this connection! In addition to developing this property – starting with a small building on what is now FourthStreet that housed Mr Atherton’s grocery business – Jno Atherton built other buildings throughout town including one block northwest corner OF Main ST., 2 blocks east corner OF Third ST., 2 blocks southwest corner OF Union Pacific RR tracks just beyond current bounds betweenOldMobelysSquare&RandolphRoadSufficeTo state that he materially contributed thereto! Also early residents did extensive home improvement work such as adding brick vaults & chimneys etc.; later homes were more ornate affairs featuring elaborate metalwork & glass inserts etc…. One reason why so few photos exist documenting life in early days when most people shopped locally goes back to lackofidentifiablephotographyback THEN!! Most likely because very few people lived here then too!! Moberly, Missouri was founded in 1837 by General Asa Knowles. The town grew slowly until the American Civil War began. In 1861, Moberly became the capital of Missouri. It was destroyed by Union forces in 1865 and never rebuilt.
