Moberly, Missouri is a small town in the Ozarks of southwestern Missouri. The population was 2,521 at the 2010 census. Moberly is part of the Springfield-St. Louis metropolitan area. The town was founded by George Washington Moberly and his family on November 3, 1820, within the present day boundaries of Springfield. It became an incorporated town on February 14, 1856. The name originates from Moberly's experience as a cavalry officer during the Mexican–American War and his acquisition of land in that conflict which he used to build himself a farmstead and later a small restaurant known as "Moberly's". The first post office in Moberly was established on July 6, 1825; it closed due to low mail volume two years later. A new post office opened on December 1, 1830; it remained open until it was discontinued on January 24, 1836 due to US Indian Wars with Kansas City rebels. In 1865 Moberly had become part of the newly created Osage County when it was organized from parts of Marcellus and Webster counties. In 1896 most OFA ranches were sold following passage of the Landowners' Rights Act by Congress which granted homesteaders buyer's rights over their properties for life without any rent or royalties payable thereto by those who did not sell them prior to expiration of such right (the act remains in effect). This event helped spur development in what would become today's downtown core around Main Street/Ulysses S Grant Boulevard while also developing much rural acreage east and west of town along Ulysses S Grant Avenue northward into Lauderdale County (now Crawford County) and southward into Clay County (now Stone County). Today there are several restaurants located throughout downtown including Grit & Grate steak house within walking distance from most businesses while other more notable establishments include Pheasant Place BARBECUE Grill & Brewpub which has been open since 1984 adjacent to Walmart across Main Street just northeast of downtown with additional locations scattered throughout central MO., East Side BBQ where they offer pulled pork sandwiches daily starting at 10am local time as well as an extensive drink menu featuring Draft Beers from all over the Midwest as well as many International brands such as Heineken & Corona among others - this latter establishment being one-time home plate for then StLouis Cardinals outfielder Ryne Sandberg who played for both teams during their early days before moving up to Chicago Cubs organization after that team’s season ended in 1903 As one could expect with so few residents settled hereabouts back then compared nowdays (fewer peoplemoving here each year), interactions between menfolk were typically limited to exchanging farming news or recounting military experiences shared during times when contact wasn't possible due either hostile surroundings or warring factions occupying adjoining territory - thereby creating an interesting mix unique unto itself given what we know about pre-modern America today thru various sources like books etc... Although some women may have worked outside the home raising families upon persuasion/convincing their husbands/ brothers once they got married too - this does not necessarily mean these women stayed sequestered behind Closed doors all day long like seems often depicted today via social media postings etc... although admittedly much less exists documented than even very short histories might suggest these days especially given proactive efforts made by numerous organizations like MO Historians Commission whose website offers various resources including articles describing current events happening hereabouts plus videos available viewing online) MoberLY TODAY
