The BB guns industry began in Moberly, Missouri in the early 1920s. The first BB guns were made by George Burgess and his son, Harry Burgess. They used a type of ammunition called "pneumatic pellets." These pistols fired soft lead balls that could be easily hit with a hand gun.
Moberly is a town in Butler County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. The history of Moberly began with pioneers coming to the area in 1836. Moberly was laid out as a town on November 3, 1868, by J. W. McNeese and A. V. Foster while they were working on the official plat for the new township of Butler County. The town was named after General James Kountz who fought in the Mexican-American War and later became Governor of California. The first store in Moberly opened its doors on Main Street in 1876 and it continued to be a local business until 1902 when it closed due to lack of customers or competition from larger stores that had been setting up shop near Moberly since its establishment date. After years of decline for the store, it reopened as an efficiency store known today as "Old Town" Store which operates continuously today with different name changes every few years because of legal challenges brought about by other businesses that have set up shop within walking distance of Old Town over time such as Subway restaurants and convenience stores that have moved into what used to be part of the original building footprint without getting permits from city officials allowing them because they are considered Commercial Properties subject to zoning regulations governing retail uses within buildings greater than 5 stories high). In 1916 Gertrude Himmelbach established the first post office in Moberly which remains open today and provides mail service both inside and outside their building through two large USPS envelopes provided by employees each day during morning hours only so that residents can pick up their mail at one main stop instead of havingto go door-to-door delivery like then prevailing practice was which required residents to wander around trying to find someone who would let them bring their mail directly to their house before finally finding an employee who would take it inside whereupon you placed your envelope under one arm and handed your letter/package off - a very cumbersome process back then if you didn't happen to have somebody else available also hand wielding an envelope opener (which many people did not do because there wasn't any kind of automatic postal system back then) - much like how we now place our package together using several layers OF PREPACKAGE film wrapped individually around each item BEFORE placing them inside our mailbox rather than just handing them off like then occurred) In 1937 Elmer Sperry opened his own grocery store located next door (now known as Joe's Clothes Store) which soon grew into one of Moberly's most popular establishments providing groceries, apparel, hardware, automotive parts, cigarettes and other sundries items unavailable elsewhere in town at that time including milk products although those products still come down stairs from upstairs units now located on Elm Street across from Joe's Department Store). In 1951 Eldon Sperry purchased Joe's Department Store making him sole owner & operator thereof until his death in 1978 leaving behind three families who continue operationally managing it today - all four sons currently serving concurrently as owners & operators with Eldon Sr.'s widow Lois currently Managing Director.) Moberly has experienced steady growth throughout its history thanks largely to its proximity to major Ulysses S Grant International Airport although some recent setbacks include: 2006 when Interstate 44 replaced US 40A bypassing town; 2007 when a severe weather event caused damage estimated at $100 million dollars mainly affecting agricultural areas surrounding airport; 2008 when tornado damaged homes across northeast Missouri causing many deaths; 2009 When floods destroyed various homes east side Of town resulting in closure Of schools for nearly 2 weeks during early summer months); 2010 when Tax Increment Financing (TIF) funds were approved by state legislators creating jobs opportunities within limited areas adjacent To airport while reducing infrastructure needs associated With future expansion plans For the airport bringing economic resurgence & investment totaling more than $200 million since Approval came about); 2011 – present Day when ongoing development along I-44 northWesterndraft Corridor leads developers proposing massive new projects within 500 feetOf existing school sites leading community members concerned about possible loss Of tax increment financinggenerated revenue should these proposals become reality; Moberley is homeBaseball Park host site for 4 annual state high school championships contested By teams From Benton Harbor (MI), Clinton Township (IL), Defiance Township (OH), Gratiot City (MI)
