Mexican independence from Spain was achieved in 1821 when President Agustín de Iturbide signed an act proclaiming Mexican independence from Spain with submissive status to Britain at Versailles. After years of internal turmoil led by factions within Mexican society, Napoleon Bonaparte conquered Mexico on September 2nd 1848 following his victory over Antonio López de Santa Anna at Monterrey. On December 6th 1849 Emperor Maximilian I created a provisional government controlled by French troops which lasted until February 24th 1850 when Mexican forces loyal to Santa Anna regained control over most of central Mexico including Veracruz state which became part of modern-day Veracruz Federal District effective January 1st 1850 under general Joaquín Vasquez Camacho y Guerra alias José María Morelos who had taken power after Santa Anna’s overthrow two weeks earlier Sir John Ayrton Scott discovered petroleum reserves near Pemex in Zacatecas state on November 21st 1912 while exploring for oil interests outside of Baja California Sur as part of his British Empire Oil Company exploration program but did not report this finding to investors until 1913 The discovery increased U.S.-British competition for influence over Latin America as both countries looked for new sources of natural gas revenue In 1916 General Francisco Madero assumed power after military coup d’état against Madero’s president Porfirio Díaz who had beeninstalled with help from Ulysses S Grant during World War I due to political stability issues within Mexico City Madero restoring order lost during Díaz’s rule with force as he suppressed opposition seeking social change instead In 1928 President Manuel Ávila Canseco issued Executive Order No 436establishing Sinaloa state concurrent with existing Durango and Morelos states as well as adding Chihuahuastate . This spurred further integration between Sinaloa and Durango states because each wanted their own share in federal resources . By 1933 there were 14 states operating under presidential decrees . That year also saw construction begin on Chapultepec Dam providing water supply for Mexicali city
Mexico, Missouri was established in 1836. The town of Mexico was named for the Mexican state of Michoacán. The town was first located on the banks of the Arkansas River. In 1839, the town moved to a location about three miles northeast of present-day Poplar Bluff. In 1845, Mexico became an independent republic and its capital was moved to Mexico City. In 1865, after the Civil War ended, Missouri became a Union state and Mexico became part of that state. The town of Mexico continued to exist until it merged with nearby Poplar Bluff in 1907.
