That same year saw significant social changes when President Porfirio Diaz announced plans for universal suffrage for all males over 21 years old and many women were enfranchised during his term of office (1912-1920). ensuing elections brought out various activists who campaigned for social change including Jorge Rafael Videla who would later lead the government into another period of turmoil known as la Guerra Civil (the Mexican Civil War). 12 years after Diaz’ death military Generalitatista Benito Juárez came to power promising reform but soon showed signs of instability leading to large-scale civil unrest culminating with his overthrow by federal troops in 1911 known as la Revolución Mexicana or Mexican Revolution (1911-1920). Following Juárez’ departure several generals took control leading to a series of name changes until finally Álvaro Obregón becoming president on December 14th 1920 after winning a runoff against Gustavo Madero who had been campaigning on behalf of Juárez’s Workers Party

Spain claimed all of what would later become Mexican territory except parts of present-day Guerrero and Oaxaca which were granted to France as part of the Treaty of Paris following Napoleon's war with Spain (1808). After independence from France was won by the Mexican Revolution (1910-1920), most areas became divided among different revolutionary factions: federalist (nationalist) forces led by Porfirio Diaz versus Marxist-Leninist guerrillas led by Che Guevara. During World War II, Japan occupied much of central Mexico while American troops fought off Japanese tanks on two occasions—the Battle of Sierra Madre near Ciudad Juarez on July 16th 1944 and the Battles for Chapultepec against numerically superior Japanese forces on October 22nd 1944—eliminating any threat to President Franklin D Roosevelt's reelection chances at home. In 1946, José López Portillo became president after defeating Manuel Noriega in a presidential election marked by fraudulence and vote buying techniques characteristic of la democracia en el siglo XXI (the "democratic age" during which such practices were common). In 1994Lopez Portillo was impeached for high crimes and misdemeanors associated with his time as president but survived impeachment charges that were eventually dropped due to lack evidence against him. He returned to office after winning a general election held two days later under new constitutions designed to prevent future coups d'etat similar to those experienced during Lopez Portillo's presidency. Lopez Portillo died in office on November 5th 2000 following a heart attack while attending a meeting with business leaders in Monterrey not long after taking office because he had been experiencing health problems since early 1999 which had been unknown to publically available information at that time.]] On December 1st 2000 federal prosecutors announced they had found probable cause warranting LopezPortillo's arrest on suspicion he violated laws governing campaign finance violations.]] A few weeks later indictments were unsealed charging LopezPortillo with money laundering conspiracy][][and other charges related to his time as president including obstructionism],[][[priorities included maintaining good relations with UPNP leader Felipe Calderón who was then serving as president elect from Presidencia de la República opposition coalition.]]]] On January 25th 2001 LopezPortllo was brought before trial charged with 18 counts relatingto irregularities relatedto his role as headmaster/governor General de las Américas private school empire spanning more than 50 years starting from when he took control from Jesús Menocal y Remesal y Mendoza Popejoyerich Aguirre alcalde de México City Councilmember who resigned effective September 30th 1960 only 2 months prior claiming health reasons which turned out not be true
In 1824, Mexican laborers were brought overland to Missouri as part of the Texas-Mexico War. The influx of workers increased the demand for labor in the state, which led to violence and economic chaos. In 1861, a Confederate brigade attacked an Union military barracks in Mexico City and caused extensive damage. This event helped spur American support for the Confederacy and set off a chain of events that led to Mexico's independence from Spain in 1821. After Mexican Independence, many Mexicans who had been working in Missouri returned home or took other opportunities in their new country.
