Maryville is a town in St. Louis County, Missouri, United States. The population was 5,568 at the 2010 census. It is part of the St. Louis Metropolitan Area. The town was founded in 1819 by Captain James Kipp and his family as a small farming community on the left bank of the Mississippi River. The first post office in Maryville was established in 1825. In 1831, Captain John Morton founded another small farming community on the north side of the river near where present day Union Station stands. In 1837, General James Kapp sent his troops to battle against Native Americans at Battle Of Blackwater Creek and they were successful; this event helped spur development of Maryville and neighboring communities along both banks of the river. In 1840, captain Amos Kendall organized a company of militia to fight against Indians called The Mississippian Battalion which numbered about 30 men strong with cannons and rifles while also assisting with lumbering operations on what is now known as Old Hickory Hill area east of town and west of Route 66 (now Westmoreland Road). On October 7th 1840 he organized such a company under Captains George Prentice and David Sanger who were also captains for other companies within The Mississippian Battalion - all three officers were assigned to command this unit from Fort Harrison adjacent to Maryville Factory which had been built by Captain Prentice some time prior toJanuary 17th 1840 In February 1861 Colonel Elijah Hicks organised Company A from citizens volunteering for military service during the American Civil War After Confederate victory at First Bull Run (July 28 1862), General Wade Hampton ordered all veteran Volunteers not turned over to Confederate forces or allowed into Confederate territory must march southward towards Richmond Barracks until their horse feed ran out or be surrendered During these years there was much business activity taking place in early pioneer days including: steamboat trips downriver on "Pioneer boats" made every weeknight before dark; collection/distribution of coal away from white miners throughout southwest Missouri; purchase/sale/transportation of goods brought overland across state lines by boat or wagon team
