Maryville is a small town in Johnson County, Missouri, United States. The population was 5,819 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Springfield, MO Metropolitan Statistical Area. The community was founded in 1837 by settlers from Virginia. In 1857, Maryvillians voted to become a village and it was named for General James K. Polk (1808-1892). George Washington Carver (1867-1943), an American agricultural scientist who developed carmelized sugar cane as a product of agriculture, lived in Maryville from 1933 to 1941. In 1906, the first high school opened in Maryville and remain open today as Anson University's Maryville High School. In 1890, the Kansas Pacific Railroad built its line through Johnson County and two years later the railroad station was established at what is now downtown Maryville. At that time there were only three stores and one post office in the community which grew quickly due to business connectedness with nearby towns such as Liberty and Independence. By 1907 there were ten businesses in downtown Maryville with over $6 million worth of merchandise bought and sold that year alone! From 1907 until 1914 when it closed because of World War I military service the local bank served as both branch offices for KC&I Railway's Topeka and Santa Fe Railway lines out of Topeka with branches also located at Main Street (now east side of town) and North Market Street (west side). During this time period many important events took place within city limits including: first election held under Republic form of government; incorporation by voters November 2nd 1905; opening day for new brewery on Main Street which became world famous for their "Bourbon Blonde" beer; first football game played on October 7th 1909 between visiting Lexington College team from Kentucky amd local team from Topeka won 9 - 3

Maryville is a town in St. Francois County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,527 at the 2010 census. The community was named for the Virgin Mary. It was founded in 1834 by John McNairy and others as the Town of Maryville. In 1838, it became the Parish of Maryville and incorporated as a town on December 5, 1839. On November 3, 1861, Confederate General David Farragut arrived at Yorktown and destroyed all but one block of downtown Maryville before retreating to Petersburg. The small block that remained standing served as an artillery battery until early 1865 when it was surrendered to Union forces under General Ulysses S. Grant. In 1957 the town voted to change its name to tribute to service member Lieutenant Colonel James Mclntyre who died during World War II while serving with Company E (3rd Battalion) 4th Infantry Regiment at Iwo Jima Island in Okinawa Japan; his remains were repatriated home to Maryville on October 2nd, 2007 after being resting at Mount Olivet Cemetery since 1945 The post office closed in 1984 and was re-opened as a convenience store called "New Beginnings" until its closure in 1990 due to financial instability caused by the recession which hit St Francois County hard during that time period According to 2010 census data, there are now two churches within the city limits - First Baptist Church (built 1922) and Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church (1929). There are also several educational institutions located within or close by: Saint Francis High School (grades 9-12), William Covington Jr./Karen Kulp Middle School (grades 6-8), Lewis Wright Community Learning Center (grades pre-kindergarten through 8th grade), Montessori school - Holy Angels Pre-School (ages 0-6), Christmastime program for children aged 3 months through 5 years old from families with no other child care available A new grocery store/cafeteria opened up in 2006 called "Breadwinner's Market". It replaced an earlier restaurant which had been closed for many years due to water damage from rainstorms that occurred frequently throughout 2006 and 2007

By 1825, Maryville had a population of over 100 people. In 1826, the Missouri legislature named Maryville an official city. The city grew rapidly and reached its peakpopulation size in 1830 when it had over 300 residents. However, during the American Civil War, Maryville quickly fell to Confederate forces and eventually lost its status as an official city. As a result of the war, many residents fled to other areas in Missouri or Illinois. The population of Maryville decreased severely after the war and only regained some levels of activity during the late 19th century. Today, there are few remaining residents living within the boundaries of downtownMaryville.
