Maryville is a small town in St. Louis County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,813 at the 2010 census. The town formed from the merger of two other smaller towns on May 20, 1872. It is named after Saint Mary of Egypt who evangelized in the area. The first settlers were farmers and their families who arrived around 1836. They built a log cabin on what is now Old Route 66. In 1840 they moved to what is now West Olive Drive and started a sawmill and grist mill which still operates today as The Monarch Mill & Factory LLC. In 1856, John Ireland set up his store in what is now the eastern edge of town and began trading goods with nearby communities such as Lebanon and Independence. He also established a school for grades one through twelve which became known as Ireland's School (later renamed Maryville High School). In 1861 he married Margaret Haggerty and opened his own grocery store across from the old post office building that still stands today called Mrs Haggerty's Grocery Store #1 (now known as Irish Hall). In 1865 an order came from President Abraham Lincoln for all Union soldiers to be brought into Missouri over winter so that supplies could be stockpiled for war effort; this led to increased demand for food items in Maryville which caused Mrs Haggerty's Grocery Store to close its doors for good on December 12th, 1865. It reopened under new management three days later but closed again due to high prices charged by rival stores near by. The last time Mrs Haggerty's Grocery Store was open was on October 17th 1945 when it was destroyed by fire caused by a lightning strike during World War II while being used as an armaments store bythe military personnel stationed there; it reopened six months later with new management but closed again due to lack of market appeal having changed hands multiple times since then including once becoming part of JB Hi-Tech Incorporated before closing again in 2003 following another fire years earlier totaling $34,000 in damage done within 2 hours! When Prohibition ended allowances began being given back to stores meaning that many businesses failed including Mrs Haggerty's Grocery Store which reverted back to its original name "Itasca" after much discussion between local citizens & business owners about how bestto cope with high prices associated with prohibitionism while continuing operation most days throughout 2009 despite not meeting state or national requirements imposed upon them! Today there are only 3 functioning buildings left standing out of approximately 150 properties damaged or demolished during prohibition era: Mr Duffy’s Barbecue where BBQ sauce has been sold since 1978; IHOP located just off Rte 66 east side next door where pancakes have been served since 1954; and McHugh’s Pizza located inside IHOP off Rte 66 south side across from Waffle House dating back to 1951!

In 1811, Maryville was founded by Captain James K. Polk and his wife Eliza on a tract of land that they purchased from the Osage Indian tribe. The town grew rapidly due to its location near a navigable river and its natural resources such as coal and limestone. By 1828, Maryville had a population of over 100 people. In 1837, the town was burned to the ground by Union troops during the Kansas-Nebraska War. In 1861, after Missouri became a state, Maryville became one of the counties in St. Louis County. In 1870, the city annexedlyingtowns of Richmond Heights and Oak Park (northwest of downtown Maryville). The annexation created an even more dense community than before with over 1,100 residents living in just fifty blocks in centralMaryville. In 1907, local entrepreneur John Ahearn donated land north of downtown for what would become known as "Ahearn's Hill". This hill is now home to many businesses including Ahearn's Hardware Store and Ahearn's Restaurant which are still in business today. During World War II, large numbers of military personnel were stationed at Maryville during World War II training camps located nearby such as Camp Bearden which operated from 1943 until 1945; Camp Cook which operated from 1944 until 1945; and Camp Beeville which operated from 1948 until 1951%. Many soldiers who lived inMaryville also fought in World War II both domestically and abroad including Majors Leroy Sweeny (1943-1945), Forrest Tucker (1945-1949), Steve Trimble (1948-1951) & Lt Col Cpl Donald Ladd (1950-1955). The post war years saw significant growth for the town with new construction being undertaken such as Allis Chappell High School which opened in 1960; Anson Mills Mall which opened in 1962; Northstar Casino/Hotelwhichopenedin1984;andthe largest development ever made to Maryville when Lambert Group announced their intention to build an office tower on Ahearn's Hill named after then Mayor Cecil Baughman. The project was completed in 1989 and remains one of the most popular tourist attractions withinMaryvillitoday
In 1837, a group of farmers in Maryville began to petition for the admission of a school. The first school was opened in 1839. In 1861, the town became part of Missouri and the school closed.
