The theater closed around 1951 but reopened as an antique store/gallery inside the old post office building in 1975-1976. The current shopping center opened up on South Elm Street just north of downtown Maryville in 1984 and has since been home to many local businesses including two banks (First National Bank and Trust Company and Community First Bank) as well as several restaurants including Old Hickory Pizza & Pasta and Zen Garden Chinese restaurant. In 2007-2008, construction began on a new wing to the shopping center that includes apartments and retail space with plans for it to become one of the most popular destinations for shoppers in town with its large courtyard setting complete with live music performances every week during summertime

Maryville is a town in St. Francois County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,752 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Springfield, MO Metropolitan Statistical Area. The community was named after Mary Chapin Carpenter, who donated land for a post office in 1872. The first store in Maryville was built in 1876 and the first school was built in 1880. A flour mill was built on the site of what is now the hospital in 1915 and it continued to operate until 1974 when it closed due to lack of customers. In 1964, a tornado destroyed most of the business district around downtown Maryville and many homes were damaged or lost their roofs entirely. The town's only industry before that time had been agriculture which stopped production during World War II and then resumed only briefly afterwards due to oil spurt. In 1990, construction began on Spiritwood Place shopping mall which would become one of the largest malls in Missouri but never opened because of financial problems. In 2005, Maryville announced plans to build an $8 million park with an open-air concert stage and several sports fields as well as new homes for people who live near by or work near by; however this project did not come to fruition until 2014 when funding became available from state government sources rather than private investors like those proposed originally
The first settlers in the area that is now Maryville were Scottish immigrants who arrived in 1811. The town was founded by James Weir, a native of Glasgow, Scotland, and his wife Angelina. The town was named for Lady Maryborough, a title given to her by Queen Victoria. By 1834, the population had grown to around 100 people. In 1847, the Missouri Legislature created a Semi-National Guard District which included Maryville. In 1861, Confederate General Sterling Price moved his army from Corinth to Maryville and began planning an attack on the Union forces at Springfield. When he did not receive support from Middle Tennessee Republicans who controlled the state legislature, he withdrew his army and returned home. On November 15th of that year, General Price's army attackedMaryville but were repulsed with heavy losses. After this loss, most of Sterling Price's forces evacuated their camp before continuing their march northward towards St Louis. However, on December 7th of that year they finally reached Springfield where they surrendered to Union troops under Major General Ulysses S Grant. This event marked the end of the Civil War in Missouri
