Maryville is a small town in Missouri, United States. The population was 3,823 at the 2010 census. It is part of the St. Louis metropolitan area. Maryville is located on the east side of the Mississippi River and is bordered by Randolph to the north, Howell to the east, Florissant to the south, and Blue Island to the west. The town was first settled in 1837 and named for General James Fenton Mary who had fought in both world wars. The first post office opened in 1838 and remained open until it was discontinued in 1963. In 1955, a new post office called "Maryville" was built and remains operational today. The town has an active amateur radio community with two ham radio repeaters which provide communications services throughout Missouri including parts of Illinois and Kentucky as well as parts of Arkansas, Oklahoma and Texas. In 1916, Maryville Merchants Association established a cooperative grocery store which became one of America's largest Grocery stores before being eclipsed by Walmart within five years.. After another 20 years; it closed its doors all together due to financial troubles but reopened under new management in 1984 with more than 500 employees including 100% female ownership." By 1964 all 50 U.S states had licensees selling handguns through state police forces or sheriff’s offices while over 1 million pistols were sold annually in America alone

A post office was established at Maryville in 1824, and the town was named for Mount Vernon, Virginia (now Washington D.C.). In 1845, Maryville became an incorporated city with a population of 971 people. During World War II, much of Maryville was destroyed by bombing raids from Japan. Many homes and businesses were lost, but many others survived as reconstruction began shortly after the war ended. The city has seen major redevelopment since then including several new buildings erected on land that had been used for agriculture or grazing before becoming a city center again. The Gateway Arch Bridge crosses over I-270 near Maryville and links Streator County to Jackson County to the south and east; it opened on July 20, 2006 and replaced an old bridge that crossed Illinois Route 38 between Streator County to the north and Jackson County to the south which had been damaged by a tornado in 2002 George McCann Boulevard runs concurrent with I-270 through downtown Maryville while also providing access to both roadways from east side streets towards downtown towards US 54 Northbound which exits at I-270 Westbound just past Gate 2 of Gateway Arch complex In addition two churches have recently reopened their doors after having closed during renovations: First Baptist Church reopens Sept 3rd 2016 followed by Second Baptist Church reopens Jan 10th 2017 following some significant repairs/updates including brand new roofing & windows!
The village of Maryville was founded in 1837 by Jonathan and Nancy A. Gilmore. The village originally consisted of a few homes, a cooper shop, and a schoolhouse. In 1857, the village had a population of fifty-eight people. By 1870, the population had grown to one hundred people. In 1875, the first post office was opened in Maryville. The original name for the town was "Benton." In 1888, the name was changed to "Maryville." The town became a city in 1907.
