Maryville is a city in St. Francois County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,691 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Kansas City Metropolitan Area. The first settlers to what is now Maryville were French Canadian fur traders who came to the area in the early 1800s. They named their town after Mount Saint-Michel which was located in Quebec, Canada at that time. The first post office in Maryville was established on July 10, 1854. The name of the town was changed from Mount Saint-Michel to Maryville on January 1, 1887 by an act of the Missouri General Assembly following a request from residents of neighboring towns for a change in name. The present day downtown contains many historical buildings dating back to various periods and locations including: Old Courthouse (1824), Methodist Church (1838), African American School (1910), and First National Bank building (1892). Of note are also two large gasoline stations built locally during this time period - one at Main and Elm Streets and another just east of US-21 near State Route 671/Kansas Avenue. From its establishment until about 1920, Maryville had no public school system; students went to private schools or homeschooling programs until they were able to attend public schools starting with North Central High School starting in 1923 when it became part of KCM Schools District No 3010 which included all of northwest Missouri including Maryville as well as most of southwest Kansas City as well as most of Topeka and Wichita KS. In 1970 KCM Schools District No 3010 merged into KCM Schools District No 3010 making Maryvill

Throughout its history, Maryville has been home to some major events including three presidential inaugurations (Ulysses S Grant in 1865, Woodrow Wilson in 1913, Franklin D Roosevelt in 1945), two general elections (1868 and 1924), and numerous county meetings and other local government functions. Today, Maryville remains an important cultural hub within Jackson County with its active arts scene, vibrant nightlife culture, and supportive residents who continue to make their mark on the community through civic organizations such as United Way or Rotary Club
The town of Maryville was founded in 1831 by a group of farmers who decided to name their new settlement after the Virgin Mary. The town grew rapidly and soon became a major center for trade and commerce in the area. By 1872, Maryville had become an important manufacturing center with its own mills, churches, and schools. In 1906, the city council adopted a resolution authorizing the erection of a statue of Jesus Christ in honor of God's love for humanity. The statue was dedicated on October 12th, 1906.
