In 1865, Confederate General Robert Ewell's army invaded Missouri and reached Maryville; the town surrendered soon afterward and lay within Union lines until May 1, 1865 when it finally fell to Confederate forces under Jubal Early. "The day I laid down my arms at Cumming's Bridge I knew that my time had come," wrote one resident upon surrendering to Union troops led by General John Fenton Hays during battle at Perrysburg on May 1, 1865." Two years later on October 25th 1870 another large engagement took place near present day downtown Maryville when Union forces commanded by Brigadier General David Hunter defeated Confederate cavalry under Colonel John Sackettson resulting in three fatalities on both sides." "One hundred fifty miles from home" according to one account "the people here did all they could do to furnish food for themselves". As per another account "the stores were nearly emptied after we went into camp". So great was the famine that even some men turned cannibalism into an art form: "We roasted up some pigs after we got them back from Stevenson’s store". Aftermath of war caused severe economic hardships for many residents which continue until this day: “About $2 worth of flour will buy you two bushels of potatoes today” reported one woman around 1880 while another stated “It takes four dollars just to get enough groceries for your family” . This lack of food hampered social development which perpetuated poverty despite efforts made over several decades by local officials including Mayor Wm Ladd who became nationally known for his work against poverty through his programs such as Legal Aid Society

By 1850, Maryville had a population of over 1,000 people. During the American Civil War (1861-1865), Maryville remained loyal to the Union and pro-Southern. A group of Confederate veterans known as "The Old Guard" remained in town until 1870 when they finally evacuated following Union victories at Perryville and Missionary Ridge. In 1872, John Fenton bought 6 acres near present day Maryville for $1 per acre and began construction on what would become his largest cotton plantation ever built – Fenton's Cotton Plantation. After years of hard work and dedication by Fenton and his workers, Little Rock businessman George Eastman acquired Fenton's Cotton Plantation in 1902 and developed it into one of America's leading cotton plantations – still operated by family hands today. During World War II (1939-1945), local businesses supported military production through rationing; examples include Mr.'s Lumber & Supply Co., Mrs.'s Diary Book Store & Bazaar Department Store (now Jardine Village). Many residents also worked in nearby factories or contributed their time or services to patriotic causes such as food drives or war efforts such as supplying munitions to Allied forces throughout Europe. Today, although much progress has been made since Reconstruction ended more than fifty years ago – including gentrification trends – much remains unchanged aboutMaryville's proud history including its vibrant community spirit which continues today!

It has continued to exist as a neighborhood withinOklahoma City since then.
