The history of firearms in Maryville, Missouri can be traced back to 1853. That year, the first gun shop in Maryville was opened by George Haggerty. Haggerty was an early pioneer in the area and he decided to open a store to sell rifles and shotguns. The shop continued to operate until 1907. In that year, court order prohibited the sale of guns within the city limits. Gun shops reopened soon after, but only after they acquired a license from the city government. In 1916, Gunnar Sverdrup opened his own gun shop in Maryville. This business operated until 1951. During that time, Gunnar Sverdrup sold firearms both wholesale and retail. He also made customizations for his customers on occasion. In 1957, Al Kapp founded Kapp's Firearms & Ammunition Company in Maryville. This company specialized in selling handguns and ammunition online as well as through physical stores across Missouri. Kapp's Firearms & Ammunition Company operations lasted until 1981. A few years later, another handgun store opened up inMaryville called Golden Gables Shooting Gallery Incorporated (). Golden Gables Shooting Gallery Incorporated operated until 1984 when it merged with Mid-America Sporting Goods Corporation (). Maryville is a town in St. Louis County, Missouri, United States. The population was 9,871 at the 2010 census. It was founded in 1837 by Captain John Tipton and his family as a small settlement on the confluence of the Missouri and Arkansas Rivers. The first post office was established in Maryville in 1840. In 1851, the town became part of St. Louis County when it was organized as a county seat. The town is named after General James Kapp’s wife, Mary Vaughan (1787-1868). General Kapp had been an officer with distinction during the Mexican War and had served under Ulysses S. Grant before becoming governor of Illinois in 1847-49. When he became president of the United States in 1850, he selected Mary Vaughan as his secretary of war because she could speak English well and had experience leading troops into battle. The general donated land for construction of what would become downtown Maryville and many other important buildings throughout the years including First National Bank (now Wells Fargo), which opened its doors on Main Street on November 2, 1857; Anthony Theatre (nowthe Vandalia Theatre); Kapp Gymnasium; and retired Colonel Edward Haney's home (now occupied by Gresham College). In 1870, when Carbondale begins to grow rapidly nearby due to its location at an intersection where two railroads crossed, merchants from Carbondale began to traffic through Maryville for goods transported downriver by boat or overland to Carbondale arriving early each morning so they could sell their produce at market stalls set up along both sides of Market Street between Fifth Avenue and Race Street while people were still sleeping! This traffic caused several problems for local officials who were unable to keep up with demand or provide enough transportation available for all those coming into town! One solution that worked temporarily until another more permanent solution could be implemented was building some sort of bridge over Spring River which would allow goods brought into town by boat or overland through Carbondale directly to local stores instead of having them travel downriver multiple times! A second problem that arose from this type of trade was that not everyone who came into town got along – there were always tensions between different groups living close together within walking distance such as ethnic Greeks who lived on one side of Spring River while African Americans lived on the other side – this led to some violence which often ended with innocent bystanders being hurt or worse! Another issue that occurred frequently about this time period was firelocks – these lockers used to contain firearms used by permit holders during hunting trips outside the state limits! Maryville, Missouri is a small town in central Missouri that was founded in 1831. It is the oldest community in the county and the only one remaining from the original townsite of Maryville, which was laid out in 1824 by state legislator James A. Hill. The name "Maryville" comes from an Indian word meaning "place where Christianity first appeared." The town was named for General George Washington's wife, Martha. In 1830, Maria Mason came to Missouri with her husband John Mason and their three children. They established a farm on what is now North Main Street in Maryville. In 1832, they built a cabin north of their cabin and started teaching school for freed slaves. In 1835, they built a grist mill on present-day First Avenue between Elm and Maple Streets. This mill became one of the most important businesses in the area and still stands today. The town grew rapidly during the early 19th century due to its natural resources: coal, oil shale, timber, agricultural land, and slaves who were brought over as part of early westward expansionism by Presidents Ulysses S Grant and Abraham Lincoln. By 1840, Maryville had 1 householder per 10 residents; this number increased to 2 households per 10 residents by 1860 because of increased population growth along major transportation routes such asthe Illinois Central Railroad (IC) and Kansas Pacific Railway (KP). During World War II Maryville served as an airfield for Army Air Forces bombers flying missions over Nazi Germany from RAF Station Grimsby on England's East Midlands Peninsula until 1945 when it closed after being abandoned due to lack of use following the war. Since then much development has taken place within the limits of Maryville including retailing at nearby Overland Park since 2007; professional sports teams playing at nearby Kansas State University since 1915; new housing developments adjacent to downtown since 2010; plans for a new football stadium redevelopment project known as Joe Gibbs Stadium that are currently under construction; four elementary schools opened since 2002: Homecreek Middle School (2002), Macon Elementary School (2004), Midtown Elementary School (2006),and New Beginnings Elementary School (2009).
The town of Maryville was founded in 1821 by General James K. Polk and his wife, Martha Washington Polk. The town grew rapidly due to the cotton industry and became a major center for trade in the region. In 1861, Confederate troops burned down the town's courthouse and many of its businesses were destroyed during the Battle of Maryville. The town quickly rebuilt, but experienced another setback in 1865 when Union forces burned down most of the town again. By 1881, however, Maryville had regained some of its former prominence as a trading post and small manufacturing center. In 1896, the city council erected a new building which served as both municipal hall and jail until it was replaced by the current building in 1954.
