In 1865, Reverend James Kapp moved his family to Maryland Heights from Kansas City after he purchased land there with money he had saved as an editor for The Kansas City Star newspaper. Kapp was president of Mercy Hospital which opened in 1865 and became one of the largest hospitals in Missouri until it merged with Emory University Hospital in 1972.) A post office called Pottersville was established at Maryland Heights in 1851, but it was discontinued operation in 1861 because noone lived there long enough to claim it! The first school built on what is now State Street (then known as Main Street) near where Union Station now stands was called "Hilton School" by its original students and staff because it had been donated by Colonel John Hilton who owned land adjacent to present-day Maryland Heights Cemetery.. Reverend James Kapp started teaching his children how to read and write when they were just six years old - this early education helped him build up a successful business empire which included several hotels including Keystone Hill Hotel & Casino Resort located on I-64 just east of Interstate 35W about halfway between downtown StLouis and suburban Ballwin (now Overland Park). These early businesses proved so successful that Kapp decided to open another hotel soon after: Riverfront Manor Hotel & Casino Resort across I-70 from downtown StLouis – this new hotel would become one of America’s top gambling destinations! In 1896, General Motors began production at their new factory north of Interstate 70 west of Bellefontaine Road – this made nearby Bellefontaine Commerce Row property unavailable for development so local investors bought it instead and renamed it Chevy Chase Center after General Motors’ CEO Charles Wagoner who used Chevy Chase Boulevard as his personal highway outside GM plants throughout Midwest USA starting back then! In 1925, Chevrolet produced its first car here at Chevy Chase Center – this car company’s iconic model year “Chevrolet Special” cars still sell today throughout North America! This important milestone helped give Chevy Chase Center international recognition as one of America’s preeminent manufacturing centers during the 1920s through 1930s! In 1957, Bel Air Driveability Corporation acquired control over Chevy Chase Center from General Motors – this led to Bel Air becoming home not only to America's number 1 luxury lifestyle car company but also some world class restaurants like The Ritz Carlton Hotel etcetera! After more than 50 years under Belair Corporation ownership, MDH Properties Inc., based outof Laurelwood Village nearbellevue mall announced plans for construction on what would become known as "BelAir Place", named after their parent company's flagship product line – 3 bedroom/2 full bath homes priced anywhere from $175K-$225K+!! And we haven't even gotten started yet...

The area now known as Maryland Heights was first settled by French colonists in the early 17th century. In 1802, the United States acquired it from France as part of the Louisiana Purchase. The area became a center of industry and commerce, and many famous people were born here including Ulysses S. Grant, James Buchanan, and Andrew Johnson. The city was renamed St. Louis in 1896 after its incorporation into the City of St. Louis County.
