In 1876, the Union Pacific Railroad built a line from Springfield, Illinois to Maryland Heights, Missouri. The company's first locomotive was an 8-carriage car of #848. The railroad reached its destination in less than two weeks. A year later, it expanded its reach by building a branch from Maryville to Maryland Heights. The town of Maryland Heights was founded in 1881 by James Caird and his wife Anna Belle Caird. The couple had come from the city of St. Louis and were interested in developing a town on the edge of their property in order to escape high taxes there. They named their town after General James Kansa, who had helped lead the Kansas War for Independence and later served as Ulysses S. Grant's secretary of war. In 1903, J P Morgan bought controlling interest in the Union Pacific Railroad and extended its tracks into Missouri from Springfield to Columbia Junction near Jefferson City. With this new connection, Morgan could access much more up-state farmland for shipment down the railway lines to Chicago than he could before because Midwesterners now had easy access to markets outside of Cincinnati and Milwaukee. As a result, corn became one of Missouri's major exports; during World War I it was used as munitions (the first time that corn had been exported as such). At about this time, American manufacturers began moving out of Pennsylvania and into what is now Michigan and Ohio due to cheaper labor costs within those states compared with Pennsylvania's manufacturing industries. This change led some companies such as Armour Manufacturing Company and Ford Motor Company to move their factories out westward into Illinois or Indiana while others like United States Steel Corporation stayed put in Pennsylvania—all while possession of all three states passed from West Virginia (where they'd been since 1786) through Kentucky (which gained statehood in 1861) and Minnesota (granted statehood in 1912). In fact, many eastern industrialists were so worried about Wisconsin becoming a “labor-richback” Midwest that they actively campaigned against statehood for Minnesota; when it finally happened – following elections held on November 3rd – they decided not to compete head-on with western corporate interests but instead form a political bloc known as “The Gilded Age Democrats” which functioned both regionally (in Congress) and nationally (through party caucuses). In 1871, the town of Maryland Heights, Missouri was founded by General George Washington Carver. The town was named after the Heights of Frederick County, Maryland which were then part of Virginia. In 1870, Carver bought 640 acres of land in present-day Missouri and built a cotton gin and other buildings around it. He also developed a small community called Highland Park which he planned to be a model for new towns in America. Carver's first permanent residents arrived in 1872. They were farmers who had come to purchase land near the town for their own farming purposes. By 1875, when Carver announced his intention to move the entire community to Missouri, over 100 people had already moved into his new town. The original streets in Maryland Heights were laid out according to a grid system and today many of them still remain as they were when first formed. The development of Maryland Heights began slowly but surely and only truly took off during the late 1800s when transportation became available more easily than ever before and people could commute to work in greater distance than ever before. Over time,increased production at local mills led to an increase in population growth as well as jobs within the local economy that helped support both residential development on either side of Interstate 40 (the now-demolished main drag) as well as commercial development along I-40 itself. Today, much like its namesake town years ago, Maryland Heights is known for its pristine farmland with rolling hillsides surrounding it – perfect for horseback riding or hiking – while also having some of the most vibrant shopping districts outside Greater St Louis County

Maryland Heights, Missouri is a small town in Boone County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,865 at the 2010 census. It is part of the St. Louis metropolitan area. The first German settlers in Maryland Heights were two brothers named Johann and Wilhelm Kapp from Wurtemberg in 1827. They arrived on horseback and built a log cabin on the edge of what is now Maryland Heights Cemetery. In 1854, Jens Jensen and his brother Ole opened a store in what is now the center of town. They saddled up their horses and walked to work each morning across a miles-long bridge over the River Triton that connected Maryland Heights with Pohltown (now just east of St Joseph). The store continued to operate until 1906 when it was destroyed by fire. The first school in Maryland Heights was founded in 1868 by Miss Carrie Fenton with five students attending for one term per week. A second school was established in 1870 by Dr John Dyer but it burned down within two years so he joined forces with Miss Fenton to build another school which they called "Missouri Academy." That school operated until 1927 when it too burned down; this time due to an electrical issue at the building! In 1929, Mrs Anna Hauptmann organized a girls' high school which grew into University High School through 1969 before becoming MDHigh School again through 2004 when it merged into nearby Central High School (then known as Eastside HS) In 1957, Dr James Hargrave donated land near the intersection of US Highway 61/I-435 and MD Highway 9 for incorporation into what would become downtownMDHighSchool After more than 30 years as an unincorporated community, local citizens voted on November 14, 1984 to make Jefferson Township Incorporate & incorporate as “Maryland Heights” under state law #97-247 . This gave rise to present day businesses such as Applebees Mexican Grill next door to 7-Eleven and Dunkin’ Donuts located just off I-435 south of Park Boulevard … these days some residents still refer to themselves simply as “Movers & Shakers” or simply “MDHS”
