Shooting Target Holders

There is no doubt that the history of target holders in Marshall, Missouri goes back to at least 1885. At that time, Charles H. Tuttle patented a design for a holding device which allowed shooters to hold targets with ease and accuracy. The patent was filed in Illinois and granted in 1886. The earliest known example of a target holder designed specifically for use with rifles was invented by John Sievers in 1913. This device consisted of a metal frame with an adjustable stem located above the rifle's magazine well. When the shooter pulled the trigger, the stem would move into position on either side of the magazine well and prevent rounds from spilling out when reloading. During World War I, many Army officers moved away from using breechloading firearms and instead relied upon machine guns or artillery pieces which required them to keep their ammunition boxes close at hand in order to reload quickly. As a result, target holders became necessary again as individuals began having to carry multiple rounds of ammunition for various weapons. After World War I, there were several efforts made towards developing better target holders for handguns as well as rifles. One such effort was conducted by Professor George Eastman at MIT who developed what is now known as the Eastman Target Holder (ETH). The ETH was an improved version of the earlier Tuttle PatentTarget Holder which featured two adjustable arms measuring 3-1/2 inches wide x 1-1/4 inches wide x 7/8 inch deep and weighing about 12 ounces apiece; it also had an attached grip strap which could be tightened around someone's waist so that it prevented him from losing his grip on his rifle while holding targets. Although initially unsuccessful, Professor Eastman eventually created a further improvement to his ETH called the "Target Holder Plus." This redesign featured four adjustable arms measuring 7/8 inch wide x 1-1/4 inch wide x 11/16 inch deep and weighing about 27 ounces each; these arms could be pivoted so that they pointed in any direction along their length without having to remove them from their mountings (thus providing unlimited shooting possibilities). Additionally, another strap was added which could be wrapped around someone's waist so that he couldn't lose his grip on his rifle while he held targets - this feature proved especially useful when shooting over obstacles like tree branches or other objects within range of your shots! In 1936, Charles Tuttle Jr., grandson of Charles H. Tuttle who originally filed the original Tuttle PatentTarget Holder patent back in 1886 died suddenly at age 49 after a long illness; however, his patents lived on through others until finally being cancelled by US Patents office in 1984 pursuant to its policy against renewing expired patents Once again targeting devices took center stage as some enterprising manufacturers started producing new designs incorporating features unique unto their product line - one such company being Brownells Firearms Corporation who produced what is now known as "Tuttle Target Holders" models since 1966! These newer products usually incorporated more adjustable arms allowing users greater flexibility when holding their respective firearms while engaging In Shooting practices! With all these changes taking place within target holders manufacturing industry during those early years following Charles H. Tuttle's death & invention there are quite literally countless different examples available if anyone desires To find one! However given all this diversity it can be difficult if not impossible To determine simply how popular any particular design actually became For many reasons... primarily because not everyone involved withtarget holders manufacture& development felt comfortable releasing detailed information about their products publically!!! Consequently we must rely heavily upon archival research & personal interviews done prior TO THE 1980s IN ORDER TO DISCOVER ANY INFORMATION THAT MAY HAVE BEEN MISSED OUT ON IN THAT TIMEperiod!!!!!!
