Marshall, Missouri is a small town located in southwestern Kansas. The population was 1,940 at the 2000 census. Marshall was founded by Mormons in 1871, and became a U.S. city on March 24, 1907. It is one of the few cities in America that has been continuously served by two mayors—George Washington Carver and Orville Wright—both of whom were also natives of Marshall.

Marshall is a town in Clay County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,719 at the 2010 census. It is part of the St. Louis metropolitan area. The first permanent settler in Marshall was Isaac Decker in 1836. A post office called Deckerville was established in 1838, and remained in operation until 1861. In 1863, the name of the town was changed to Marshall after General Robert E. Lee's surrender at Appomattox Court House. The town grew rapidly due to its location near Union Pacific Railroad tracks and its location on a stream that supplied water for towns east of St. Louis. On July 12, 1870, Marshall became one of twenty-six townships within the new county of Carbon County; it retained this status until 1912 when it became part of the city of St. Louis.[1] In 1902, the Kansas Pacific Railway built a line from Memphis to Carbondale through Marshall; this made Marshall an important transportation center for eastern Missourians moving westward into Kansas City and beyond On November 16, 1916,[2] during World War I, local farmers raised enough cornmeal to provide flour for army intelligence operations as part of Army Feeding Corps program; this led to increased demand for food products in Greater Saint Louis region On December 8th 1948,[3] Drs Nobel Prize Winning Chemists Dr Jorgensen and Kjellander visited Marshall Rail Yard where they were shown how methods were used to produce plastics by reacting methanol with carbon dioxide which turned into polycarbonate etc

Marshall was founded in 1821 by Captain John Marshall and his wife, Rachel. The town became a military post during the Mexican-American War. In 1853, Marshall became the seat of government for the County of Clay. From 1861 to 1865, it was occupied by Confederate forces during the American Civil War. After the war, Marshall reverted to Union control and experienced rapid growth. By 1900, it had a population of over 50,000 people. It is now a small town with a population of under 10,000 people. In March 1861, Missouri voters passed an amendment to the state Constitution authorizing slavery in all states except Kansas and Nebraska where it was already legal. This amendment set offa bitter political struggle between slaveholders in Missouri and abolitionists in other states which ultimately led to the Civil War. At first skirmishes occurred between Rebel forces and pro-slavery militia in central Missouri but soon conversion rates among white residents began to rise as well. On April 14th 1861, when Confederate General Robert Ewell arrived at Hannibal Road near St Francoisville with 2 infantry regiments under his command he ordered Major General James Longstreet's 4th Corps ( numbered IX Corps) southward along fault line towards Springfield on Cemetery Hill for what would become known as battle of Stones River On May 1st 1861 Union cavalry units discovered large numbers of Confederates retreating from Battle Of Stones River northward downriver towards Rolla On May 3rd 1861 Union cannons opened fire on Confederate positions at Baden Powell Bridge located east of Carthage As result Confederate Lieutenant Colonel William Trousdale ordered his brigade commander Colonel John Sibley's brigade across Robes Creek bridge back upstream into Kentucky without waiting for orders from higher up It has been estimated that almost one third of all men who took part in battle died either before or after fight started
