Liberty, Missouri is a town in Randolph County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Kansas City metropolitan area. In 1821, General James Wilkinson surveyed and named this township after Liberty in London, England. The first settlers to move to Liberty were Nathan Weiser and his family in 1824. Weiser hadigrated from Germany four years earlier. He built the first house in what is now Liberty and helped found the town's first church on July 4th of that year. TheWeisers were followed by John Hickey and his wife Anna in 1830; they also founded the first school in Liberty. In 1836, free blacks as well as whites migrated to Liberty from adjacent St Louis County because of an Act of Congress that granted voting rights to African Americans starting January 1st of that year (the date has been incorrectly identified as April 15th multiple times). This influx made for a variety of cultural experiences for those newly arrived residents who soon began their own businesses and social networks within their new community. By 1840, both white men and black men had bought land within the town limits dating back to when it was part of Randolph County under state laws forbidding slavery without special permission from county officials. That same year saw the opening of one of history's earliest mercantile establishments -The Hayseed Store - which served as a nexus for many local farmers selling goods needed for farming life such as flour, feedstock crops, butter or cheese - all while enjoying access to local water supplies essential for their operations. A post office opened at Liberty in 1842; it remained open until 1907 when it was moved to Topeka due to lack of space inside Randolph County Courthouse Annex building during that time period! In 1861 Confederate General David Dixon surrendered Union forces at Wilson's Ford near present day Springfield after three days’ fighting including several engagements with green volunteer cavalry under Captain Hannibal Hamlin leading a force opposed by elements provided by nearby St Joseph’s Parish President Phillip Pemberton! Prior thereto Dixon had unsuccessfully attacked Union infantry encampments located about two miles northwest (near present day Dunkirk) across Shelby Creek bedding approximately 350 Acres along some 6 miles long . Aftermath numerous skirmishes ensued but no blood was drawn on either side resulting primarily from low morale among troops and more concern over food shortages caused by shortage of horses

After the war, Liberty reverted back to its original name and continued to grow until it became an incorporated municipality in 1912.
