Lebanon is a small town in the county of St. Francois in the Ozarks of Missouri, United States. The population was 639 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Springfield–Springfield, MO, Metropolitan Statistical Area. The community was founded by Lebanese refugees who moved to Missouri after being displaced during the 1948 Arab-Israeli War. Lebanon's first post office opened in 1951 and its first store opened in 1954. In 1957, it became a municipality with a full town hall and library system. The population increased to 1,088 by 1990 but decreased to 527 as of 2000. By 2006, it had increased again to 639, but has since decreased again due to loss of jobs and commuting from other towns in the metro area.

The refugees created a new culture in Beirut which contributed to its success after the war. In 1954, Lebanon passed an ordinance establishing public education within its boundaries. This led to Lebanese children learning about their country’s history and culture at an early age.
