Lebanon, Missouri was founded on December 29th, 1836 by a group of Gideonites who were led by Elijah Cummings. The town name was chosen in honor of the Lebanese Refugees who had come to the area in pursuit of religious freedom and education. Lebanon became a dry county in 1907 and an alcoholic beverage control board was created in 1916.
