In 1836 Governor Alonzo Greene moved an American army under General Andrew Jackson upriver from Memphis to retake New Orleans from Mexico through Lake Michigan; when news reached him that President Andrew Jackson had ordered General McCulloch's division across Lake St. Louis for this purpose he called off Jackson's army just before it arrived at Lake St.Louis The town site was chosen because it offered good transportation connections between various points along the river: getting goods downriver or taking passengers across; or landing supplies or troops for military operations farther downriver if necessary In 1845–46 a canal was built connecting downtown Chicago with Fort Dearborn on the north side of town What are now Maple Leaf Place and Kedzie Avenue were originally known as Greenfield Landing because they lay near where green fields current daylight stopped before reaching downtown Chicago In 1870 Congress created two separate townships within present day Saint Clair Shores County: Quincy Township on the east side of town and Cottage Grove Township on the west side However these boundaries never really followed those provided by Congress becauseSaint Clair Shores County was dissolved into five more counties whenMissouri became a state in 1907) In 1923 – 24 an expressway bypassed town limits altogether and became known today as I-55 (note also that since then much progress has been made adjacent to Interstate 55 proper such as redevelopment around University Park which began circa 2005)) The agricultural center around Union Station declined during World War II due largely to Manifest Destiny policies pursued by president Franklin D Roosevelt but has experienced resurgence since then due mainly to immigrants coming here for work rather than simply residency

During World War II, Lakefront Airport served as a military airfield for both American and British forces until 1945 when it was closed due to construction on nearby Interstate 55 which then replaced it as SaintLouis airport The history of this city goes back before there were any settlers hereabouts! The area now including downtown SaintLouis was first populated by Native American tribes dating back to 1536 AD when French explorers discovered this region during their expedition from Quebec to Central America! Initially they named this area Point aux Meadows meaning "outhouse" because they found several small settlements scattered around what would become today's Downtown SaintLouis! These villages included Pointe-aux-Moines (later renamed Village des Moineaux) on the north side of where Indian Creek flows into Lac du Flambeau; Pointe-à-Pitre on which current day State Street splits off from Illinois Avenue; and others located near various forks in the creek system! As time passed more and more people began moving into these areas - some coming here specifically for hunting grounds while others developed landowning interests hereabouts! Eventually European traders learned about this valuable resource and began trading with these local tribes - helping them develop new irrigation systems as well as trade goods such as pottery, guns, knives etc... This purchasing power eventually helped spur development within these areas leading to increased taxes/purchasing power among those who had originated hereabouts! As time went on more people started arriving - many coming intentionally or unintentionally due to opportunities available along I-55!! Many families decided to move closer together so that they could share resources & experiences etc... Thus began what would eventually become known DowntownSaintLouis!!! By 1800 ADSaintLOUIS was little more than a few scattered farms & checkerboard homes surrounded by swampy woods*** In 1812 General James K Polk built what became known as Missouri's capital at Independence across from present day downtown SaintLouis after being elected president in an election won by Jackson with only one percent of the popular vote over Adams' Federalists (the Democratic party)! Unfortunately due to problems associated with building a new capital on top of ancient ruins much work stopped immediately upon Polk's inauguration causing him great political difficulties Nonetheless he managed to establish himself politically & successfully ran for reelection 3 years later*** This impressive structure still stands today acrossfrom City Hall central business district vacant since 2005 *** During World War II veteran Air Force Base STL served US Military aircrafts at MOA until 1945 when it closed due to construction on nearby interstate 55 which then replaced it becoming STL airport *** After WW2 STL grew rapidly becoming one of 5 largest cities inMOstate housing over 155000 residents*** Being one of 5 large cities growth wasn't easy however job satisfaction rates stayed high even amidst mediocre infrastructure*** ***** Recently STL has seen some redevelopment with mixed results*** *****
Lake St. Louis was founded in 1792 by a group of French fur traders. The area that would become Lake St. Louis was first settled by Native American tribes, and the first European to live in what is now the city was Frenchman Jean Jacques Dupleix, who built a trading post on the east bank of the river in 1794. In 1802, United States forces under Ulysses S. Grant burned down Dupleix's post and captured his goods, which led to years of trade between France and America through Dupleix's post. The site where Dupleix's trading post currently stands became known as Grant Street after him. In 1827, the Missouri Compromise passed which gave Iowa Territory to Missouri; this caused much contention within Missouri over who should get it since both Iowa and Illinois were part of Illinois at the time. In 1829, Congress created a new district called Indian Territory comprising all present-day Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Michigan; this also caused much contention among resident citizens of those states over who should get land that didn't rightfully belong to them (Iowa had already been divided into two parts). In 1830, James Kellar purchased 3/8ths interest in Fort Snelling from General Andrew Jackson for $1 million dollars. This allowed Kellar to build an elaborate military fortification on what is now Minneapolis Avenue North between Nicollet Boulevard and Hughson Avenue which served as his home until his death in 1865. In 1836, Act No. 7 of 36 approvedthe City Charter of Minneapolis; this marked the beginning of municipal government for Minneapolis proper rather than just its eastern border as it had been up until that point. On March 30th of that year, Mayor John Greenstreet appointed Lavaca & Goode Streetscape Commission with authority to make changes necessary for street arterial circulation within city limits including widening Second Ave., resurfacing Mpls Ave., adding sidewalks & public gardens
