Lake St. Louis, Missouri is a large body of water located in the Ozarks region of the United States. The lake has a surface area of 153 square miles and a population of over 295,000 people. In 1865, when Missouri became a state, it formed part of that state's first congressional district composed mostly of land lying east and south of the river known then as Creek Nation or Black Earth country because so much coal was mined thereabouts. This district was abolished in 1871 when Kansas became a state and most portions thereof went to Oklahoma; however, some eastern sections including those lying around present-day Lake St.Louis were combined with Union County, Iowa Territory into what is now Jackson County, Missouri (along with other parts) during that time period for territorial purposes only - no change took place regarding whether or not these sections formed part of our present day city limits! On November 3rd 1898 President James Kapp added another community to our growing city by proclamation designating "St Charles" on what at that time was still unincorporated land east side navigation channel extending from Illinois side (now called Old National Road) meeting stream just northwest corner Swansea Street on southwest corner Federal Street near US Navy Yard - thus making our boundaries even more definite! On January 1st 1905 we had 547 residents living within SIXTY MILES OF ANY POINT ON THE MISSISSIPPI RIVER! That makes us one heckuva' big town by today's standards!!! And don't forget about those darn mosquitoes!!!

Lake St. Louis was founded in 1764 by Jean-Baptiste Colbert, the Minister of Finance in the French Revolution. The town was originally named for the Saint Louis River and it was moved from its original location on the east bank of the river to its present site on the west bank in 1836. The first post office at Lake St. Louis was established in 1768, and by 1810, it had become a small farming community with about 100 residents. In 1825, when Missouri became a state, Lake St.Louis became part of Jefferson County and grew rapidly as an agricultural center with cotton plantations and large phosphate mines. However, during World War I (1914-18), most of these mines were closed due to wartime production difficulties; however, one mine did continue operation until 1920.
