Lake St. Louis was founded by the Missouri Company in 1796 as a territorial sub-district of Louisiana. Despite these challenges, overall progress has been made toward increasing access to services for all residents—including more affordable housing options—in one central location.
The first white settlement in the area was on the site of what is now known as Lake St. Louis, founded by a group of French fur traders in 1764. The town served as a trading post and military base during the American Revolutionary War.
