Today, many aspects associated with early American settlement and development are preserved or celebrated in LakeStLOUis: such as pioneer Cemetery Hill overlooking downtown; brick buildings from early blacksmiths' shops built before racial segregation outlawed such activity; Independence Hall where George Washington gave his Farewell Address on July 4th 1796; Old Fort Armstrong (named for General Anthony Wayne who lost ground at Battle of Fallen Timbers in 1812), which served as a post garrison for troops during both world wars; and numerous small businesses located along major thoroughfares like Main Street or Tower Avenue that continue to thrive today despite competition from online retailers or other largescale physical changes taking place around them – such as construction projects that have destroyed many old buildings since they were last used for business purposes in recent decades including several blocks near Downtown which have been completely rebuilt using new zoning regulations designed specifically for light industrial uses only instead of residences – providing residents and visitors with a unique opportunity to see how their community has changed over time without having to leave their doorstep!
