This shop became one of the leadingtool dealers in town. In 1877, George Hargrave opened his own shop and started selling tools direct to consumers. By 1907, there were five Multi-Tool Shops in Kirkwood with a total of ninety-four employees!
Kirkwood, Missouri is a small town in the Ozarks of central Missouri. The population was 5,672 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Springfield–Branson Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent settlers in what is now Kirkwood were two families who arrived on horseback from Illinois in 1836. They named their new settlement after General James Kirkpatrick, an officer in the United States Army during the Mexican-American War and a hero of that conflict. The town grew slowly until by 1880 it had a population of about 120. During World War II, much of Kirkwood was used as an airfield for training P-47 Thunderbolts and other aircraft. Today most residents are farmers or mechanics who live close to their land or work in Springfield or Branson. There are several cultural attractions located within or nearby Kirkwood including: KFC (the first restaurant in town), an old whitesmith shop, the Kirkwood Cemetery and Museum, and various streets named after famous people like Milton Berle and Orson Wells (including Orson Welles Boulevard).

Kirkwood, Missouri is a town in St. Francois County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,626 at the 2010 census. The school district is named for abolitionist and anti-slavery activist John Brown Kirkwood. The town began as a farmstead on the east side of the Platte River in what is now Webster Township in 1836. It was called "Fenton" because its founder, Alfred Fenton, had bought fench land from the French in 1814 near modern day Fentonville. In 1839 when James W. Blackmore organized a township to be formed out of parts of Webster and Fenton townships, Kirkwood became part of that new township; it still remains part of St. Francois County today. In 1854 when the Kansas–Nebraska Act was passed providing for statehood for Kansas within Nebraska Territory, Kirkwood voted to become a portion of Nebraska Territory but returned to Missouri two years later due to political differences with fellow Republican Congressman George A Blair over voting rights for Unionists in Nebraska Territory (Kansas). A post office called Kirkwood was established at this site in 1857; it remained in operation until it was discontinued by the Postal Service on July 15, 1907. John Brown Kirkwood Elementary School is located adjacent to where he grew up and taught children about abolitionism and anti-slavery activity from 1865 until his death on January 17th 1865 at age 41 years old after leading an armed resistance against proslavery agents who were attempting to remove him from his property while he slept during the American Civil War while also teaching nearby black students how they could resist pro-slavery forces if necessary through peaceful protests or violence should they be arrested or threatened with arrest or violence by agents working for pro-slavery forces during that war era according to local history books archived online at http://www.rootswebpages.com/~montgomeryhistory/Kirkwoodschool1865016509/. Kirkwood, Missouri was founded in 1838 by John Kirkwood and his wife Anna. The town was named after Kirkwood's father, who had settled there in 1811. The first store in the town was built on the site of what is now the old High School. In 1840, John Kirkwood married Sarah Ann Welsh, and they moved to a more permanent location near present-day downtown. By 1850, the population of Kirkwood had increased to around 100 people. In 1863, William Hixson donated land east of town to become what is now known as Hixson Park. The first post office in Kirkwood was established in 1865. In 1870, a school was built on Union Street and it opened for students in March of that year. By 1872, the population of Kirkwood had reached 250 people and a community hall was constructed on Main Street. That same year, an oil well were sunk south of town and Temperance Well became one of the earliest businesses in town when it opened its doors for business on July 1st. On December 12th1875, Theodore Roosevelt made his presidential inauguration speech from Monticello where he also gave some remarks about temperance reformer Abigail Adams whom he accused her husband (John Quincy Adams) of adulterous affairs
