The population had dropped below 1,000 by 1990 when it increased by 5%. However, since 2000 there has been an increase back up above 1,000 with over 2% growth each year since 2010 according to census figures obtained from Missouri Department of Commerce & Economic Development (MDCED). This trend could be attributed largely to several factors: an improving economy overall across all states; births among young adults ages 25-44 increasing faster than deaths among those same age group nationally; job growth within MDCED’s four economic sectors – real estate development/acquisitions/rental/commercial leasing – which have all seen double digit percentage increases each year dating back at least five years; annexations or conversions by other municipalities into consolidated city or rural districts resulting in more people moving into agricultural areas west or south of Kirkswoods main street
