holster history in Kirkwood, Missouri goes back to 1868 when a store called the Leatherneck was opened by John Fenton. The store had three rooms and sold holsters, pistols, rifles and shotguns. In 1875, the store was closed due to lack of business. The Holster Company reopened in 1876 and continued to sell holsters until it closed in 1941.
Kirkwood, Missouri is a small town located in the Ozarks of southern Missouri. The population was 1,823 at the 2010 census. The town is named after Captain James Kirkwood, an American Revolutionary War soldier and captain of the USS Yorktown. The first European to visit Kirkwood was French explorer Jacques Marquette in 1673. In 1814, General Andrew Jackson moved his army from Cairo, Illinois to nearby Decatur and began construction on what would become the Capitol building. The original courthouse was built in 1824-25 by Captain James Kirkwood and his father-in-law Amos Kendall. In 1865, Union General Ulysses S. Grant set up a military post here during the Civil War to support his efforts to move eastward across the Mississippi River into Arkansas Territory. After Union forces reached Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania on July 24th of that year they opened up communication with Washington D.C., and General Grant decided he needed a military base close to where he could do more direct combat against Confederate troops moving down the river. He ordered Major General George Halleck to build Fort Sumter near present day Kirkwood on August 17th of that year (although it had been under construction since 1845). Fort Sumter wasn't finished until 1868 when Confederate MajorGeneral Pemberton arrived here with reinforcements from Tennessee with orders to capture it if possible; however, Pemberton's forces were driven back before they could even get close enough for battle. On November 11th of that year two days after Fort Sumter fell Confederate MajorGeneral Robert Ewell surrendered this fortification as part of an overall surrender by all Confederate arms at Appomattox Court House; thus ending any attempt by either side to hold out against Union forces throughout southern Virginia (and north Georgia). Aftermath: After Fort Sumter fell President Ulysses S Grant issued a proclamation calling for all citizens of all states who served in some capacity within Confederate lines during the Civil War (even those who did not fight) to come home and rebuild their homes or businesses; this included people living in areas such as Knoxville Tennessee which had been taken over by Union troops duringthe war effort. During the Renaissance period, many people began wearing armor, so it became important for them to find something to put over their armor so they could still carry their weapon without having it get scratched or damaged. One possible solution was to create a holster designed specifically for carrying a sword or other weapon with shield attached. This type of holster would use two straps instead of one, and it would be connected at either end by some kind of material (usually cotton). Another earlyHolster design was created by George Eastman in 1885. This type consisted of four loops that were sewn together along one edge and used to secure the gun's Magazine Well on an individual revolver chambered in .45ACP caliber. Kirkwood is a town in Fulton County, Missouri, United States. The population was 2,827 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Springfield-St. Louis Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first people to live in what is now Kirkwood were the Kaskaskia people who settled there around 1800. They were farmers and hunters. In 1837, they moved to what is now Unionville and started a flour mill there. There was also a sawmill and gristmill here before those went out of business in the late 19th century. In 1892, the city of Kirkwood was founded by John Atherton with land he had purchased from the creek that flows through it. He named it for his father-in-law, James Atherton (1784-1857). The first post office in Kirkwood was established on July 1, 1893. The town continued to be called Kirkwood until 1899 when it changed its name to Springfield because of new state laws which banned towns with names that included "Kirkwood." By 1905, Springfield had become too small for everyone so John Dennison founded Doane Rubber Company here on Douglas Avenue in 1909 as one of America's earliest rubber companies. Doane Rubber Company became one of America's largest producers of tires and plastic products before merging with Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company in 1978 to form Goodyear/ Tyco International Incorporated (GTO). Kirkwood was founded in 1836 by John Kirkwood, a settler who had come from Kentucky. The town grew rapidly due to the production of whisky and other products related to the cattle drive that took place near it. In 1851, Kirkwood became a district seat of Jo Daviess County. By 1865, however, the population had declined to about 100 people and the town closed down. It reopened in 1868 but again closed down within a few years. In 1902, Kirkwood was reopened as a smallcommunity with a population of about 50 people. It continued to grow until 1945 when it merged into St Joseph County.
